The postinvolves tasks practical nature e.g., handling of pathology specimens and administrative e.g., sample registration into laboratory computer system as well as other general clerical duties.

We are looking for a team player with excellent computer, administrative, practical and communications skills to assist in the day-to-day work of the laboratory.

Working as part of a team and under the direction of senior staff, to assist in the day-to-day work of Immunology and Immunogenetics laboratory.

This will include assisting in the preparation and processing of a range clinical specimens for biological testing and filing.

General clerical duties including data entry into laboratory computer system.

Alongside this, there has been significant investment and redevelopment of Pathology services with the building of new state of the art laboratories located in the Science Quarter at Southmead Hospital and the creation of Severn Pathology. The laboratory facilities accommodate all pathology disciplines including the Blood Sciences, Bristol Genetics Laboratory, a single Bristol Cellular Pathology Service and a combined Microbiology and Health Protection Agency service within one facility. Severn Pathology's aim is to provide a best in class, high quality, innovative, value for money pathology service that serves the needs of the healthcare market in the South West region and beyond. The pathology department processes over 10 million samples per year.

**The main duties and responsibilities of the post are**:
To receipt samples, book in patient and sample details onto the laboratory computer system.

To identify and process samples which do not meet required laboratory criteria, for example inadequate labelling.

Prioritise Urgent samples and liaise with colleagues on receipt of such samples.

To assist in the preparation of samples prior to analysis including serum, urine, and faecal samples.

Prepare reagents for laboratory use

Input and retrieve data from the department and other IT systems.

Deal with telephone enquires and make telephone calls to external users of the service if required.

To perform general housekeeping duties such as waste removal in line with hospital policy, maintain adequate levels of Personal Protective Equipment and other consumable items in the laboratory.

Perform general clerical duties such as scanning and filing paperwork, photocopying where necessary.

Assist in the preparation, cleaning, and decontamination of equipment such as centrifuges.
