Yard Shunter

JOB PURPOSE

To manoeuvre trailers using a shunter unit to different parts of yard, picking up and setting down laden and un-laden vehicles on and off loading bays as directed by the Despatch FLM. To ensure all daily checks are undertaken ensuring defects are immediately reported and associated paperwork completed. To undertake general warehouse duties including basket unloading. To act as the site banksman directing vehicles on the site premises.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for movement of vehicles in the yard

Pick up and set down of laden and un-laden trailers on and off loading bays

Coupling and uncoupling of unit using Salvo procedure.

Drive vehicles in a safe and legal manner ensuring compliance with all legal and site requirements.

Ensure that consideration is given to other drivers, colleagues and pedestrians in the work area.

Ensure all daily checks are undertaken ensuring defects are immediately reported and associated paperwork completed.

Unloading of basket deliveries and re arrange them in the basket wash area.

Support the basket wash area to ensure continuous supply of basket for both lines.

To ensure efficient turnaround of vehicles

Liaise with Despatch to ensure smooth and efficient loading/unloading of trailers.

General warehouse duties

Ensures housekeeping standards are always maintained.

shift pattern - 4 on 4 off

GENERAL
- Ensures compliance to all Health and Safety legislations / guidelines for self and others at all times
- Champion open and honest communication and foster collaborative relationships with the internal stakeholders e.g. Operations, Despatch, Goods In
- Ensure a proactive approach at all times within the role, keeping a commercial focus and reporting any areas of potential concerns to the right people within the business.

KNOWLEDGE / QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid HGV 1 Licence
- Must poses a Digi card
- FLT Licence (desirable)
- Basic Health and Safety

EXPERIENCE
- 3 - 5+ years HGV experience
- Experience of working within a Manufacturing environment
- Be able to work unsupervised and meet set deadlines

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

- Confident and influential
- Decisive, conscientious and target driven (on time and safely)
