Elizabeth Georgeson Fellow

**_Elizabeth Helen MacLeod Georgeson _**_was the first woman to graduate in Engineering in Scotland, achieving a 1st class certificate of merit in Mechanical Engineering and a BSc in Engineering from the University of Edinburgh (in 1919). After graduating she became one of the first few women to become an articled pupil to a surveyor, with a view to qualifying as a Civil Engineer. A member of the Women's Engineering Society, she worked at the Sheffield Laboratories for Safety in Mines Research (which later became HSE Laboratory), co-authoring 7 articles principally on the behaviours of gasses in mines. _

The Elizabeth Georgeson Research Fellow will be associated with an existing research institute within the School, in order to benefit from existing technical support and infrastructure. They will also be paired with a mentor to provide support and advice, and connected to the appropriate University staff networks as applicable to ensure the fellow has an excellent peer support group.

The fellowship is funded by the School of Engineering and is for a fixed term on three years (full-time) within the Grade UE08 salary range (commensurate experience).

A consumables budget of 15k is also offered for the duration of the Fellowship. Request for part-time working and/or flexible working patterns will be considered favourably, and the duration of the Fellowship may be adjusted accordingly, on a pro-rata basis.
