We are currently seeking Prisoner Custody Officers to join our client’s Custody team.

Our client provides a vital public service through the safe and secure transportation and custody services for adults and young people across the UK. Our client operates on behalf of the Scottish Prison Service, the Ministry of Justice and partners across the Criminal Justice System.

**The role**:
As a Prisoner Custody Officer your role is to provide court transportation services, collecting detainees from prisons or police stations and transporting them safely and securely to courts. Once there, you will be responsible for every aspect of their care until it’s time for them to return to custody, or to be released.

We have two types of Prisoner Custody Officer; one is based within a court and the other is based out of our client’s Vehicle Bases and will entail transportation of prisoners.

**Vehicle Based role**:

- You will transport prisoners (sometimes very high profile) from courts, police stations or prisons
- You’ll be responsible for your vehicle each day, carrying out external and internal checks and making sure your vehicle has sufficient equipment for the day, like food and water
- You could also be carrying out custodial duties within a court location

**Court Based role**:

- You’ll work as part of a team to make sure all those in custody are safe, looked after and arrive in the court dock on time
- Carry out custodial duties within a court location
- Maintain security and order in the court room and custody suite
- Supervising movements around the court location
- Searching of individuals, cells and areas of the custody suites

In both roles you will be responsible for the physical and mental wellbeing of those in your care, ensuring their health, safety and wellbeing is a priority. You will also liaise with Prison and police authorities, you’ll ensure all documentation is completed and correct, carrying out risk assessments on vulnerable or at-risk prisoners before transferring them. If successful, you will also be required to manage personal property and will be responsible for organising and supervising meals and drinks.

**What experience do I need?**

You will ideally need a Full UK Driving Licence but previous experience is not essential. It’s more about you and what you can bring to this role. Our client will be looking for the right behaviours to care for and help people that you are responsible for whilst on shift.

**Ask yourself these questions**:

- Can you work well in a team?
- Do you have empathy and patience?
- Are you a fantastic listener who can communicate effectively?

- Life assurance
- 25 days annual leave
- Company Pension
- High Street Discounts
- For drivers - the chance to enhance your licence to category C1 or D
- Additional allowance for PCV drivers
- Enhanced family-friendly benefits

Due to the type of work undertaken, all employees need to be vetted and PVG checked prior to joining. But don’t worry, we have a team available to support you every step of the way.
