RECRUITMENTiQ is working in partnership with a champion of Architecture and the Built Environment in Scotland. It supports the interests of its growing membership, united through its six regional Chapters, to promote the importance of well-designed buildingsand places.

An experienced Bookshop Manager is needed to ensure the day-to-day running of the retail offer and contribute to the development and implementation of the strategy to increase awareness of the shop.

A high degree of flexibility and the ability to manage effectively, both directly and by influence, will be key to this exciting role.

**The Role**

The appointed person will work 35 hours per week in both a strategic and operational capacity. It will primarily be between 9.30am and 5.30pm but may require some evening work, for which hours can be substituted.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Develop along with the Head of Communications, development of a design-led retail strategy for the shop and online.
- Ensure visual merchandising standards are set and maintained to the highest standard
- Ensure all Retail spaces are kept clean, well-stocked, well-presented, and always merchandised to the highest standards, providing visitors with an exceptional shopping environment and atmosphere.
- Take responsibility for training Booksellers in retail software, cashing handling, retail processes, gift wrapping, and visual merchandising standards.
- Handle customer enquiries and complaints in a timely and professional manner, both in person and via other communication channels.
- Collaborate with the Head of Communications of all relevant communication channels
- Supervise the preparation of all the elements necessary to promote the shop, the authors, and the products in different channels of communication.
- Nurture open communication with all our team members, ensuring a holistic approach to the delivery of the retail offer in line with the program. Manage the social media accounts for the bookshop in consultation with the Head of Marketing and Communications.
- Work with appropriate colleagues to assist in the repositioning and commissioning of our publishing
- Proactively maintain income levels through weekly plans for re-merchandising and re-pricing of existing stock.
- Ensure that stock is correctly priced and coded and entered correctly on the till system.
- Supervise deliveries ensuring that stock is safely and neatly stored in the stockroom and that relevant paperwork is completed accurately and without delay.
- Analyse shop figures to show sales, profits, and progress on KPIs and income targets.
- Effectively manage the processing of refunds and exchanges ensuring all procedures are adhered to correctly.
- Ensure that our financial and cash handling procedures are maintained in relation to audit and security requirements, always showing exceptional attention to detail.

**Essential Skills and Experience**
- Organised and enthusiastic individual with a minimum of three-year experience as a Retail Manager
- Proven experience in a management capacity in a retail role
- Recent experience in administrating back-end EPOS systems
- Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience in supervising a team of staff on shift with multiple priorities, coordinating and leading on delivery activity
- Strong organisational, communication and administrative abilities
- The ability to act with tact and diplomacy with individuals from a variety of situations and backgrounds
- Flexible approach to the job
- Excellent customer service skills

**Desirable Skills and Experience**
- Knowledge of First Aid, Health and Safety, and licensing issues
- An interest in architecture and design
