Littlehampton, United Kingdom Arun Church Full time

**Are you passionate about youth work? Do you enjoy working with young people in the local environment? Could you join our team?**

**Arun Church** is a vibrant organisation that is passionate about serving God and changing our community for the better. We run many initiatives including CAP Debt Help, Arun Youth Projects, Playcentres, Refresh coffee shop and social activities in addition to our Sunday services. Our offices are at the Wickbourne Centre which is owned by the Church. We also own premises at 102-104 The Street, Rustington where we lease offices to tenants upstairs and our Playcentre downstairs. We meet on Sundays at The Littlehampton Academy.

**Arun Youth Projects **is a community youth service run by Arun Church in partnership with other agencies. We want young people to be happy, safe and recognise their potential. We connect with local young people through youth clubs, focused projects and targeted support work.

**Our Vision, Mission and Values**

Our vision is to see the good news of Jesus change lives, communities, and the world. Our mission is **bringing life to everyone, everywhere, everyday**. We want to empower our church and our employees to bring life wherever they go. That will look different in each context, but is typically about being a source of joy, energy, and compassion to others.

We understand that not all employees will share our faith or the motivation behind what we do, however we do expect all staff to agree with our aim of making a difference to the people and community around us, and to respect our method of doing so.

The following values describe who we are and who we want to become as an organisation. They guide us in our day-to-day conduct, our decision
- making, and in our hiring:

- **God First**:we take our cue from the life of Jesus outlined in the Bible, and our actions are informed by His example. We ask employees that do not have a Christian faith to work in a way consistent with the teachings of Jesus such as showing compassion, serving others and being non-judgmental.
- **Passionate**:we are motivated by excellence and a desire to make a difference.
- **Brave**:we are not afraid to take risks or to fail, but we always try
- **Generous**:we freely give our resources to enable others
- **Together**:we support and value each other, celebrating teamwork and championing individuals

**Detached Youth Worker - Role Purpose**:
To work directly with young people aged 11-25 (with a priority of 11-18) in the designated Targeted Social Need areas, by providing relevant needs-based programmes, support and information.

There are 2 roles available, one role to join our Detached Team in Angmering and one role to join our Detached Team in Littlehampton.

**Detached youth work** operates without the use of a building or specific activity, and takes place where young people are based both geographically and developmentally. It delivers informal and social education and addresses whatever needs are presented to or perceived by the youth worker. As Detached Youth Workers have no physical building or specific activity over which they have power or control, the relationship between young person and youth worker is entirely voluntary and constantly up for negotiation.

**Outreach youth work** also takes place on young people’s own territory and supports and compliments new and existing centre/project-based youth work. Primarily used to inform young people of services that exist in their locality and to encourage them to use such services, outreach can also seek to identify, through consultation with young people, any gaps that exist in services aimed at meeting their needs.

**Key tasks**:
1. To be engaged in face-to-face youth work in Targeted Social Need areas one late afternoon/evening per week.

2. Ensuring that young people play an active role in programmes and activities and work towards a model of youth participation, encouraging young people to broaden their horizons and be active in AYP projects and in their community

3. Assist young people to express and realise their goals

4. Communicate effectively and build positive relationships by developing a rapport with young people enabling young people to work effectively in groups

5. Support young people in their understanding of risk and challenge and in taking action to address key issues in their lives, whilst challenging oppressive behaviours

6. To liaise with 3rd parties including councils, schools, parents and other agencies in agreement with your line manager

7. To provide detailed reports on detached sessions and promptly report any safeguarding incidents to the line manager following established procedures.

Other duties:
To attend and participate in related meetings such as training events, staff meetings, supervision, appraisal, and other appropriate courses as required.

**Work Pattern**: Detached Youth Work is usually conducted one evening a week, availability and regularity of shifts can be discussed
