**About the Role**

The Private Secretary to the Registrar is a critical position that provides expert advice and guidance to the Registrar across the range of her responsibilities, including on often complex or unprecedented issues. You will influence and provide advice to others to ensure that the Registrar’s priorities are reflected in how work is taken forward and proactively lead the response to a range of operational and strategic issues, using careful judgement to effectively operate within a complex and sensitive environment.

You will manage the Registrar’s private office, prioritizing multiple pressing issues effectively and proactively resolving issues in a manner that befits the Registrar. You will maintain a detailed understanding of the Registrar’s priorities as well as a sound knowledge of a broad range of specialized functions/ topics in order to make informed decisions in relation to operational and strategic issues.

You will work effectively across complex networks of senior officers (including the Head of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and Service Heads), UAS functions, divisions and departments and within University governance structures. As the Secretary to the Registrar’s Senior Leadership Team, you will play a key coordinating role in joining up planning work and ensuring that SLT are appropriately consulted on key issues.

You will lead the team of Personal Assistants supporting the Registrar and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor team, with responsibility for recruitment, induction, and managing performance and development.

The role will collaborate closely with the Head of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office on a range of issues, including having co-responsibility for the Head of Administration and Finance function for the Vice Chancellor and Registrar department.

**About you**

With experience of working in a large and complex organisation, you will have sound and mature judgment, the ability to master a broad and varied portfolio and juggle multiple pressing issues, along with the ability to work under pressure. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to lead and motivate a team and tact and discretion in dealing with extremely confidential or sensitive matters.
