**Pay**: £10.90 per hour + annual leave allowance

**Working hours**: On average 24 hours - applicants must be flexible to work across the week (Monday - Sunday during the day times). You will receive 4 hours employability training each week.

**Working pattern**: Days to be planned during onboarding/ to suit delivery

**Contract type**: Fixed term contract for 6-8 weeks up until 08/09/2023

**Location**: Birmingham wide - you must be happy to travel across Birmingham as you may rotate around different locations throughout this contract. Our cafes are based in Highgate, Small Heath and Druids Heath in Birmingham and you will be working in all of our cafes.

**Eligibility criteria: Applicants must be aged between 16-24 years.**

Our ‘Big Feed’ project brings people together over food, providing a safe, welcoming space at our community cafes. People can enjoy a hearty meal created from surplus food, whilst spending time with others in their community. Through the role of Project Brum Community Food Assistant, you will develop skills in cooking, catering, and hospitality, as well as working with vulnerable communities to tackle food poverty and reduce food waste. Previous experience isn't essential, as long as you have a passion for cooking and people

This is a well rounded job opportunity that will encourage growth and learning via a range of methods. This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain valuable experience of working alongside communities. You will gain valuable work skills and receive bespoke employability training to compliment the day to day work you will be involved with.

**Main duties**

1. Support community food team to prepare and cook tasty and nutritional meals

2. Support front of house team to set up dining area and greet customers

3. Being responsive and flexible to the needs of the program

**Knowledge & Skills**

1. A keen interest in food and cooking

2. Willingness and ability to travel to locations across the city and to be punctual and reliable.

3. You may have previous working or volunteering experience and will be comfortable getting involved with a range of different activities.

4. Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships based on trust and respect, communicate with and relate to people of all levels.

5. Be a good listener, treat people with kindness and be non-judgemental.

6. An understanding and commitment to the principles of diversity and equality.

7. A flexible approach to working hours.
