Serco’s Environmental Services provide a complete waste and recycling service on behalf of the residents and communities. With a professional, dedicated and friendly team of Refuse and Recycling and Street Cleansing staff, we ensure that streets, homes and businesses are kept clean, safe and tidy, whilst providing the very best levels of customer service to all members of the community that we serve. And right now, we have an opportunity for like-minded Street Cleansing Operatives to join our team of essential workers and help us make a positive difference to the environment we all live and work in.

You will be the public face of Serco’s Environmental Services team in the community. As a Street Cleansing Operative you will set off on your pre-planned route, carrying out a range of activities designed to maintain clean streets in the area. Duties will include scraping away weeds, manually sweeping and shovelling silt, cleaning dog mess, removing flyposting and graffiti, emptying litter and dog bins and the removal of fly tipped waste. We are on the front line when it comes to making sure our community remains a beautiful, safe and clean place to live and work, a responsibility we take great pride in.

You won’t be doing this alone either. Our team is made up of professional, friendly, and supportive teammates, including managers who began their careers with Serco as Street Cleansing Operatives, loaders and Drivers who now hold Supervisor, Operations Manager and Contract Manager titles.

We are dedicated to the ongoing development and career progression of our Street Cleansing Operatives, with outstanding training opportunities made available to you, along with the chance to undertake additional qualifications. These include, but are not limited to, HGV Class 2 Driver Training, Transport Manager CPC, Team Leader and Management training, and a supportive management team who will provide guidance and advice to ensure you achieve all that you want to with Serco.

What you'll need to do the role?

To be considered for a position within our team, you will have strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as be self-motivated with the willingness to undertake further training when required and work well within a team.

A clean driving license essential as you will be required to drive to different locations throughout your day.

Previous experience of working within Street Cleansing is not essential as we will provide any additional training you may need.
