Performs duties/tasks in building services engineering including installation, maintenance, calibration, testing and repair on the full range of Electrical engineering and building Estates and Hospital equipment/services. Demonstrates problem solving skills and fault diagnosis. Undertakes work in accordance to statutory, mandatory and HTM requirements and acts as a “competent person” where required.

Maintenance to all aspects of electrical plant, distribution and equipment including work of a technical and/or non-routine nature. Perform duties covering the testing and fault finding on a wide range of electrical engineering plant and equipment, including but not restricted to; electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection, building control & automation, standby generators, laundry equipment, nurse call systems, data communications, steam raising plant and associated equipment, kitchen equipment and theatre ventilation services.

The post holder will assist in providing a day to day maintenance service and support for the department. The post holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team able to work autonomously but will be guided by occupational policies and procedures. Will contribute to partnership working by supporting the department in delivering goals and objectives by supporting continuous improvement in own performance and the performance of the directorate. Attending training, development and other activities aimed at improving own skills for the benefit of the organisation and patient care. Participate in an on-call rota or shift pattern if required.

The Estates department is an integral part of the Estates and Facilities directorate which also incorporates the Catering, Domestic, Portering, Transport, EBME, Post room, Housekeeping, Accommodation and Capital teams.

The team is responsible for ensuring the PAH site is safe and in good working order for our patients, staff and visitors.
- To respond to requests for repairs, faults and emergencies involving all aspects of electrical, mechanical & building services - The post holder will be required to assess the situation in the event of such requests or emergency situations and as a first measure, act to ensure safety of public/patients/other staff then to either affect repairs or summon assistance as required.
- Understand, diagnose and repair faults in electrical or mechanical engineering plant and equipment, to deal with new situations as they arise. Re-assemble, erect and install new work.
- Understand the workings of all non-specialist and specialist electrical or mechanical systems in PAH and associated properties
- Competently deal with new or unusual complex situations as they arise.
- Able to work in isolation or as part of a team to complete tasks within agreed timescales. Able to work autonomously across the trust sites, ensuring patient, public and staff safety is paramount.
- Participate in essential training required to ensure the trust is compliant with statutory regulations. Participate in personal development and on-going learning.
- Undertake the maintenance repair and installation equipment at the request of engineering officer and or maintenance supervisor, liaise with engineering officer on plant failures request supply of goods or services required to rectify any breakdowns.
- The position will conform to standard operating procedures and department Policies and Procedures. Although under the supervision of an immediate supervisor the individual will have the freedom to act within and comment on those policies and procedures using own level of experience.
- The post holder will be required to maintain and repair physical assets and building systems throughout the trust
- The post holder will be required to demonstrate the duties of his post to new starters, other maintenance workers and assistants. Provide training on the departments systems and plant as appropriate.
- The post holder will be responsible for inputting information on daily and weekly time sheets, reports and job cards/electronic devices, in relation to own activities.
- Completes and updates maintenance records and log sheets.
