**Mission of the position**:
The Health & Safety Advisor will be involved in implementing Health and Safety policies and procedures across all CAF Rolling Stock projects in the UK in line with the location partner company’s policies. This means ensuring the company operations are fully compliant with all relevant health and safety legislation and CAF’s existing policies and procedures.
**Key Responsibilites**:
- Provide pro-active support in the implementation of the Company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Train and guide staff on new working methods, procedures and instructions.
- Manage any practices contrary to those considered to be acceptable in CAF policies or UK Law.
- Conduct accident incidents investigations and reporting trend analysis data.
- Prepare/assist in Health and Safety audits.
- Has responsibility and authority for stopping manufacturing activities if safety requirements are not met.
- Liaise with clients directly regarding Health & Safety matters.
- Monitor implementation of health and safety risk controls and report Key Performance Indicators.
- Provide advice on health and safety compliance.
- Identify opportunities to continuously improve health and safety performance and support with developing and implementing those opportunities.
- Engage staff of all levels in making health and safety improvements, demonstrating enthusiasm and modelling positive safety behaviours.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Any other duties designated by the HSE Manager based in the Assembly area in Newport.
- Able to work flexibly and work across a broad range of activities.
- Ensure accurate records are completed and maintained in accordance with procedures in place, and work in progress is communicated to Line Managers and team members.
- Responsible for supporting the achievement and maintaining standards in line with ISO45001 and ISO14001 in terms of management methods and procedures and in terms of developing and monitoring rolling stock and depot installations.
**Required professional experience**:
Previous in-depth experience in successfully implementing Health and Safety policies and processes in a regulated environment. Demonstrates a high level of inter-personal, communication and negotiation skills to influence positive outcomes, and to ensure understanding across a multi-national and culturally diverse organisation. A thorough knowledge of Health and Safety management systems and relevant regulation/laws in the UK. Experience within a similar role in a technical environment, preferably in the Railway, Maritime, Automotive or Aviation industry. Able to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
Able to respond and adapt to changing circumstances and stay focused and motivated in a pressured environment. Able to take a proactive, dynamic approach to manage and provide solutions to problems in a climate of continuous improvement. Able to take ownership and responsibility for own work. Strong organisational skills and able to use initiative. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge and experience of promoting safe working practices in a safety critical workplace. Able to maintain accurate records. Able to work flexibly across a broad range of activities as the role evolves. A good level of proficiency in use of Microsoft office
**Technical and/or practical knowledge valued**:
Degree qualified, or equivalent level qualification, in Engineering.
NEBOSH General Certificate or willingness to work towards.
