Working as part of the multidisciplinary team the aim of this post is to:
Ensure a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
Provide a high quality porter service primarily escorting/chaperoning patients to and from the theatre department
Preparation of instruments and consumables required for surgery, once trained.
General housekeeping with routine cleaning duties
Transport of pathological specimens,
Transfer of items between locations
Transport and preparation of medical gas cylinders
Assisting in the Recovery Unit,
Any other requested tasks deemed appropriate to their scope of practice.
The post holder will be responsible for acting in such a manner as to uphold and enhance the good standard and reputation of the trust
To assist in the PACU/Recovery Staff when requested appropriate to level of working and competence.
To safely assist in the transfer of elective and emergency patients between Wards/Units and Theatre.
To assist Registered Practitioners in patient handling and care under supervision and within limits of their training.
To transfer Blood Products from the Pathology department and the Operating Theatre Department.
To transfer pathological specimens between locations.
To collect and store household and clinical waste segregating and placing in appropriate bins in accordance with Trust policy.
Use all cleaning materials in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and departmental procedures, storing safely when not in use.
To maintain routine household duties as requested.
To ensure equipment/stock levels are maintained and in good working order any problems are highlighted to the Clinical leads.
To report any faulty or damaged equipment to a Team Leader or Theatre Co-ordinator
To help maintain good communication, liaison and working arrangement with own team and other hospital departments.
To participate in Trust induction, mandatory training programme and competency training as required.
While on duty wear uniform and ID badge as supplied by the Trust.
While on duty wear appropriate personal protective equipment when appropriate.
To actively promote a professional environment
