The Cardiology Department provides a comprehensive range of Cardiac investigations and treatments for patients with a wide range of Cardiac disorders. The post holder will assist in the provision of the departments Cardiac Diagnostic Investigations Service.

We serve around three million people and we are highly regarded for our facilities, teaching and research. The trust has around 1.,450 in patient beds across two sites in Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford. Our 11,000 strong workforce provide emergency treatment, planned operations and medical care from Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital in Stafford. We are the major centre for trauma for the North Midlands and North wales. Key Areas/Tasks

Knowledge, Training and experience
- Post holder required to sit professional exams for recording and potentially interpreting ECG’s.
- Knowledge of range of routine and non-routine healthcare science duties acquired through training.
- A good science background is required to enable further development, ideally in the form of science A levels or equivalent

Analytical and Judgement Skills
- Judgements involving facts or situations that may require analysis.
- Makes decisions within own area of Cardiac Physiology and identifies, actions and report problems.

Communication and relationships skills
- Provides and receives routine information orally to inform work colleagues and exchanges routine information with tact and persuasive skills to reduce barriers to understanding
- Communicate with patients/carers when performing investigations in a way that they understand.

Planning and Organisational Skills
- Organise own day to day working tasks and activities.
- Responds to requests and prioritises own workload.

Physical Skills
- Post holder is required to record accurate and good quality ECG’s.
- Highly developed physical skills including hand eye co-ordination where accuracy is important. This is relevant when using specialist equipment

Responsibility for Patient/Client Care
- Provides basic/clinical technical/scientific services.
- Support specialised areas in the Department eg working alongside qualified staff in the Arrhythmia service and the Echocardiography clinics.

Responsibility for Policy/Service Development
- Follows policies and procedures for own work area; may be asked to comment on proposed changes.

Responsibility for Financial and Physical Resources
- Maintains stock control and security of work area.
- Ensures the safe use of equipment.

Responsibility for Human Resources
- Supervises and trains less experienced staff in own area
- May be required to demonstrate own duties to new or less experienced staff.

Responsibility for Information Resources
- Records personally generated investigation results, and is responsible for the updating of records.

Responsibility for research and development
- Undertakes surveys, audits as necessary within own working area and may occasionally participate in R&D, clinical trials or equipment testing.

Freedom to Act
- Follows procedure for own area of work with close supervision and advice generally available.

Physical Effort
- Restricted position with frequent light physical effort for several short periods.

Mental Effort
- Frequent requirement for concentration with predictable working pattern and occasional/frequent requirements for prolonged concentration.
- Required to have accurate and good quality electrocardiogram recording.

Emotional Effort
- Rare/occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances.

Working Conditions
- Occasional exposure to unpleasant conditions.
- Role includes working in A&E.
