Reading/BFfC is proud to be one of the first trailblazer sites for the Mental Health Support Teams (MHST), delivering evidence-based interventions aimed at improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people by either working directly with them or with their parents/carers. Due to the success of our first team, we have recently expanded our service in Reading with a second MHST.

**About the role**

In line with the Government’s priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) role is an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people in educational settings.

EMHPs play a key role as members of the Mental Health Support Teams (MHST). The MHST delivers services to children, young people, their families and school staff via a combination of face to face visits to schools and also remotely via telephone and video calls.

**The **Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner** **role will**:

- Work closely alongside a team of mental health professionals delivering a wide range of evidence informed interventions, under supervision.
- Develop and practice evidence-based skills under supervision to work directly with children, young people and families.
- Develop and practice evidence-based skills under supervision to carry out holistic and child-centred mental health assessments, including risk assessments.
- Work with schools to promote positive mental health in a systemic way.

**The **Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner** **is required to**:

- Postgraduate route (level 7) - applicants need an Honours Degree graded at 2.2 or above;
- Graduate route (level 6) - applicants that may not hold an honours degree must have a proven successful study at level 5; or successful part completion of an Honours degree;
- Proven record of previous learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health.
- Minimum 1 years’ experience of working with children and young people in school or in a mental health setting;
- Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders.
- Experience of working with children and young people who have social, emotional and/or mental health difficulties.
