**How you'll make a difference**:

In this critical role you will deliver, monitor and support the implementation of property related projects, policies and plans which respond to the Council’s declaration of a climate and nature emergency.You will maximise the utilisation of the council’s assets to increase the amount of renewable energy generation and explore innovate forms in order to maintain a 10% reduction each year in carbon emissions associated with energy use.

**What will you be doing**
- Working with the climate emergency team and external partners such as the Southwest Net Zero Hub, you will identify, explore and engage with funding opportunities to decarbonise the council estate and to deliver the council’s net zero target.
- In the role you will maximise the utilisation of the councils’ assets to increasing the amount of renewable energy generation and to explore innovate forms of how this is utilized across the councils’ estate including the use of innovative forms of Powered Purchase Agreements to non-council customers.
- You will drive the Council’s commitment to maintain a 10% reduction each year in its carbon emissions associated with energy use across the corporate estate through both innovations in efficiency and self-generation. Working closely with suppliers and partners you will negotiate and manage projects to meet business needs and service standards.
- It will be your responsibility to explore opportunities that link with community organisations to assist in realising their energy/climate emergency ambitions where it involves SGCs estate or land that could be brought into the estate. You will also map the transition towards the decarbonisation of heat within all council properties.
- Providing support to other departments, you will consider approaches to the decarbonisation of energy as part of the procurement of goods and services and the decarbonising of fleet vehicles through fuel switch options including opportunities for the self-generation of alternative vehicle fuels within the council estate or generating assets.
- Actively seek out opportunities for the council to extend its renewable energy generations potential to deliver income generation or cost savings that can be used to repay capital investment and that value for money is maximised.
- You will be required to produce accurate information reports and analyse complex data for customers, that fulfil statutory requirements and also set targets, monitor performance and review potential changes to ensure projects are delivered successfully.

**What we need from you**:

- You must have a Degree in a relevant environmental discipline, with substantial post qualification work experience in a relative job role post including policy and strategy development, project management and partnership working
- We require you to be fluent in the language of energy and carbon and with the ability to analyse, interpret and communicate complex data and technical information and recommend appropriate courses of action
- You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex information to technical and non-technical audiences at all levels and ability to prepare and presenting decision reports and deliver presentations to internal and external customers and organisations.
- You will be very organised and self-motivated, with ability to cope with competing demands, identifying priorities and working to targets and deadlines and ability to work collaboratively to facilitate and bring about change.
- Experience of problem solving in a multi-agency context, taking account of corporate policies and political impact.
