Trainee First Contact Practitioner

Within SCAS we have been successfully rotating our Specialist Practitioners into primary care environments for the last five years and we are one of the first ambulance trusts to do so.
NHS England have announced additional funding to support additional roles in Primary Care, one of which is a Paramedic FCP. Health Education England (HEE) have published the development roadmap for the FCP role (see documents).
SCAS are working closely with our local partners in Primary Care Networks, Training Hubs and Integrated Care System (ICS) to promote the system wide development of FCPs allowing staff to:
- Gain more knowledge and skills; to provide better patient care & experience
- Develop their clinical career
- Opportunity to achieve a suitable work-life balance
- Work across a variety of settings
- Do all of this with one employer and maintain the benefits of working in the NHS
- Stage 1 & 2 - Paramedic First Contact Practitioners in Primary Care
- Once the competencies have been met, you will become registered with the Centre of Advancing Practice, where you will be eligible for Band 7 status.
- Rotational working partnerships across primary & emergency care - front line operations
- HCPC registration for at least 4 years - working as a Band 6 or above.
- Demonstrable clinical experience in the operational pre-hospital setting, including SRV working.
- Full C1 UK driving licence.
- IHCD/FutureQuals Emergency Driving qualification (D1, D2).

About Us
South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of emergency, urgent care and non-emergency healthcare services, along with commercial logistics services.
The Trust delivers most of these services to the populations of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire as well as non-emergency patient transport services in Surrey and Sussex.
We serve a population of over 7 million and answer over 500,000 urgent calls a year. We employ 4,551 staff who, together with over 1,100 volunteers, enable us to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
**MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Clinical
To continue to practice operationally in line with the Job Description of a Paramedic when not undertaking clinical placements, prior to agreed competency sign offs to undertake specialist skills unsupervised
Paramedic First Contact Practitioner Education Programme
To engage and progress with the planned placements and programme of education at an associated Higher Education Institution (HEI) or education centre as required.
Willingness to participate and undertake in collaborative working partnerships within the wider health care system - urgent care, primary care, community care.
Ensure that the appropriate manager is keep informed of progression & results, bringing items of concern or difficulty to the attention of the line manager in a timely manner.
Undertake advanced patient assessment, treatments and discharge in line with appropriate guidelines under the supervision and direction of an appropriate Mentor during clinical placements.
Maintain factual and accurate records, under direct supervision by an appropriate Mentor during clinical placements, as required by the Trust or hosting organisation.
To be of a smart appearance at all times incorporating appropriate SCAS/HEI/Placement regulations to the wearing of uniform.
To work with patients, educators, colleagues and mentors in a professional, calm and caring manner.
Policy and Service Development
Identify where new, or review of, services and policies is required.
Participate in development and review of services, policies and procedures.
Comply with Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), and SCAS local policies relating to a safe working environment.
Comply with all appropriate, policies, procedures and guidelines.
Research and Audit
Participate in the process of audits, benchmarking projects and research initiatives in the clinical environment, and the wider organisation/NHS where appropriate.
Share and review good practice with professional colleagues in the clinical setting both within SCAS and the wider NHS.
Management of information
Ensure maintenance of up-to-date records and documentation, in line with HCPC/NMC guidelines and SCAS & wider NHS policies.
Develop Information Technology (IT) skills to obtain and disseminate information.
Use IT skills to store and retrieve clinical information on IT systems.
To ensure that patie
