Street Cleansing Supervisor

**Primary role**:
To ensure that street cleansing services are carried out in line with the Council’s service delivery agreement.
To Ensure efficient and cost-effective control of resources to deliver a professional and high-quality street cleansing service.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- To lead the team in the achievement of service delivery standards and in the continuous improvement of the contracts performance
- Liaison with the Council Officers and maintaining a good working relationship with all parties
- Deliver regular toolbox talks to all operatives
- Support the Contract Manager with the organisation and monitoring of the day-to-day operations
- To support the management team with the delivery of all parts of the Environmental Services contract
- To maintain Health and Safety and current relevant legislative requirements and ensure full compliance with Urbaser Quality and Environmental procedures
- Ensure compliance with Urbaser’s Policies and Standard Operating Procedures
- Supervise employees in order to ensure that the service provided meets the contract compliance standards laid down by the client through regular checks and monitoring performance
- Plan and allocate resources necessary to maintain performance in line with schedules and budgetary requirements
- Manage and assist in all employee relations activities including appraisals, well-being, attendance management, disciplinary, grievances and all other people related matters according to Urbaser policies
- Ensure contingency plans are prepared for any unexpected occurrences, seasonal variations, and annual events
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures are adhered to
- Support the Contract Manager with the welfare of the team and support with the resolution of any queries/concerns
- Maintain a good knowledge of the Contract and required standards
- Arrange and undertake training of employees at the contract and develop effective employee working relationships including being able to motivate the team, create an atmosphere of a good team spirit and hold a good retention rate of quality employees
- To ensure effective communication is always maintained through team meetings, toolbox talks and regular staff engagement
- Maintain work reports, vehicle logs and resource sheets
- Prepare and formulate weekly resource sheets and staff timesheets, timely and accurately
- Collate reports of any incidents, accidents and defects
- To provide information in response to public enquiries, complaints, and actions
- In conjunction with other management on the contract and client officers, be involved in presentations and activities with local community groups as required
- To understand and comply with Urbaser Ltd’s Equal Opportunities Policy
**Key Tasks**:
Daily deployment of staff
Completion of daily works
Daily inspection of services
Daily visits to teams to positively engage with the workforce
Daily review of service with the Contract Manager
Use of tracking system
Monitor and review stock and fuel consumption
Proactive continuous review of areas cleansed, including performance levels in line with Code of Practice for Litter and Refuse, and frequencies of cleansing occurrences
Management and supervision of a 7-day street cleansing operation, including out of hours on call responsibility
**Essential characteristics**:
Good timekeeping
Good customer service skills
Good communication skills including written word
Able to work in adverse weather conditions
The ability to work independently or as part of a team
Hold a valid UK driving licence
Successful completion of an in-house driver assessment process
The ability to understand the delivery of street cleansing and waste management services
Good organisational skills
Good leadership skills
**Desirable characteristics**:
Previous experience of working with or managing a team
Previous experience of Street Cleansing and/or Refuse Collection service delivery
Basic computer skills
The duties and responsibilities highlighted are indicative and may vary over time. The post holder will be expected to undertake other duties and responsibilities relevant to the nature, level and extent of the post and the grade that has been established on this basis.
