**Job Description**:
We Are St Helens Borough Council
Located in the heart of the Northwest close to Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire, St Helens is a transformational Counci,l which is passionate and ambitious for the communities we support. We provide a wide range of local authority services to the residents, businesses, schools, and visitors to the borough. We can only do this because of our highly valued, highly skilled workforce.
Working together, our workplace vision and values guide our organisation, and the contribution of our workforce is key to our culture journey. Employees with us receive a wide range of benefits including well-being in work, financial benefits, ways of working and learning and development support.
Making A Difference as a Supported Living Worker in Community Participation Services.
We are excited to offer six Support Worker 15hr vacancies and one Support Worker 10hr vacancy in our Supported Living Service.
Supported Living is a provider service that enables and supports adults with learning disabilities and complex needs in their own homes.
Our overall aim and ethos are to promote positive fulfilling lives for Service Users, via social inclusion, choice, developing and promoting their independence in a person-centred way. They require support with direct personal care using safer people handling equipment where assessed. The role can often include supporting Service Users to manage their challenging behaviour by following risk assessments and risk management strategies, whilst always maintaining and promoting their independence.
The client group we support require consistent intensive support, due to their level of learning disability and/or physical disabilities/behaviour. Some of our Service Users may experience problems in managing their complex behaviour; therefore, we adopt a multi-agency approach to help promote positive behaviour management, in the safest, ethical, and most appropriate way possible.
This role will involve working from person centred support plans, risk assessments and the promotion of person-centred planning. Supported Living Workers will also be expected to follow all the policies and procedures that are in place e.g., safeguarding of vulnerable adult’s procedures and attend regular training.
The role of Supported Living Worker requires support to 23 Service Users living in 15 tenancies across the borough of St Helens on a shift basis to meet the needs of the Service Users. Support Workers need to be flexible as you may need to work in various properties across the service. Shift work includes a proportion of weekend working and Bank holidays which are reflected on rotas.
Applicants must have some experience of working with adults or children with a learning disability, and ideally possess an NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent and be willing to undertake all essential training to meet the Care Quality Commission Standards for the service. A driver with a driving license would be advantageous however, this is not essential.
Although these posts are 10/15 hours, there may be occasions where there is an option to work additional hours to support the service whilst the team are on training, holidays, and sickness.
As a Council employee you will benefit from paid holiday entitlements, occupational health support and access to other employee benefits.
