The post holder will be responsible for providing individualised care to parents experiencing pregnancy loss during the antenatal, intrapartum or postnatal period, and also support with future pregnancies. Provide education and training on bereavement care to staff working in Maternity services. Maintain a high standard of care using up-to-date evidence based practice for these families. Ensure compliance with national directives through appropriate reporting of pregnancy losses. The post holder will also provide statistical data for local and national reports.

The post holder will work flexibly to accommodate the ambition for a 5 day bereavement service.

Provide expert support and facilitation of staff in the provision of information, care, support and practical advice to women who choose to terminate their pregnancy
2. Be the named midwifery contact for bereaved parents in the postnatal period,
4. Be the named lead and co-ordinator for women, families and staff
5. Build close relations with internal/external agencies.
6. To ensure HTA (Human Tissue Act) compliance
7. Provide expert advice and support to staff
8. Provide expert advice to staff in the practical assistance to parents with regards to Registration of birth and death and making funeral arrangements for their baby
9. Liaises with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to produce guidelines and protocols that reflect current practice. Advises regarding legislation relating to pregnancy loss.
10. Communicates regularly with staff, patients and their relatives
11. Supports the obstetrician during bereavement follow-up appointments
12. Works within the Midwives Rules and Standards with particular regard to the registration of Stillbirths.
13. Works with the mortuary staff
15. Implement change initiatives
17. Be up to date with professional developments in Midwifery.
18. Ensure the provision of excellent infection control practices l

19. To report to MBRRACE
20. To lead PMRT review meetings, submit surveillance data

21. To maintain a professional Midwifery registration.
