**1.Job purpose**

The post holder’s primary responsibility, under the guidance of the shift leader, will be to ensure the physical safety and security of children and young people during the night time hours. The post holder will respond to the needs to the young people who have a wide range of learning disabilities. You will be required to undertake domestic tasks and have an oversight of building security.

**2.Principal duties and responsibilities**

Specific:
1. Responding to the physical and emotional needs of children and young people, assisting them to settle at bedtime, and sensitively waking them in the morning.
2. The post holder will also be expected to work some day time hours in order to build relationships with the children and staff team.
3. With the assistance of the shift leader ensure the maintenance of appropriate conduct of the children and young people during the night hours.
4. To ensure that children and young people are cared for in accordance with their care plans as directed by the shift leader. You will also contribute to their assessment and recording as requested for example children’s sleep patterns, night disturbance etc.
5. Undertake fire prevention and detection routines as specified, ensuring that fire doors are closed and that escape routes are not obstructed. In the event of a fire to be responsible for raising the alarm, alerting the fire brigade and assisting in the evacuation of children and young people to a safe place.
6. To be responsible for checking doors, windows and other areas of the building and grounds on a regular basis throughout the night.
7. To be responsible for waking the sleep in person in the event of assistance being required.
8. To ensure that all relevant information is received from the previous shift and handing over all relevant details to the oncoming shift.
9. To refer to the appropriate manager, immediately upon any suspicion, evidence or allegation of any area of concern particularly in relation to incidents of violence or child protection issues in accordance with the company’s child protection procedures.
10. To respond to telephone calls made to the house during periods of duty and responding to these in a professional manner and to record appropriately.
11. To carry out laundry and domestic duties as would be required in a family home and in accordance with the instruction of the shift leader/sleeping in Residential Child Care Worker.
12. To adhere to relevant professional and administrative practices and procedures.
13. To ensure appropriate security and confidentiality of information regarding records and task undertaken as required by GDPR.
14. To be willing to undertake the Residential level 3 diploma.
15. The Awake Night Care Position holder is expected to stay awake all night in order to ensure that the children, staff and home are safeguarded throughout the night time hours. Should the post holder fall asleep whilst paid to be awake, this may result in the termination of your employment.
**3 All staff are expected to maintain high standards of customer care** in the context of Grace Care’s Core Values, to uphold the Equality and Diversity Policy and health and safety standards and to participate in training activities necessary to their post. The Night Care Assistant will undertake such training as is appropriate to ensure that they have the experience and skills necessary to carry out the tasks included in the Job Description.

We work within the homes Covid-19 risk assessment. To keep staff as safe as possible we check temperatures on entry to the home and provide hand sanitiser, gloves and masks.
