Hywel Dda University Health Board are looking to recruit a full time, 37.5 hours a week, Trainee Clinical Coder to join our existing team in Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a highly motivated, conscientious and enthusiastic individual to join our team and assist the Health Board in meeting its targets in relation to ICD-10 and OPCS-4 coding.

Joining our team as a Band 2 Trainee Clinical Coder, you will have the opportunity to progress to a Band 3, Clinical Coder within 6 months following completion of the mandatory e-learning courses and showing basic competence in the coding of a number of specialities based on an internal assessment of work. You will also be expected to attend and pass the 21 day Clinical Coding Standards Course and this will be undertaken at some point during the first 12 months in post. After a minimum of 2 years coding experience at Band 3, there is an expectation that you will undertake and pass the National Clinical Coding Qualification to attain a Band 4, Senior Clinical Coder position. Failure to achieve the competencies to progress to a Band 3 within 12 months could result in re-deployment.

You will be based in Prince Philip Hospital but there will be a need, especially in the initial training period, to travel to all hospital sites across the Health Board.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
