Youth Worker

The vacancy is for a freelance youth worker to join our team for 3-5 hours per week, with additional hours available during the school holidays.

Support during school holidays and weekends is a key part of this role.

Goal of the Position: To develop relationships with and support the young people partaking in the programmes run by the organisation.

Role - The Youth Workers role is to support their mentees by:

- Equipping young people with tools and strategies that will help them deal with current and future issues.
- Creating a safe space for the young people by promoting clear and open communication whilst establishing healthy and appropriate boundaries.
- Recognising the talents, gifts and strengths of the young people and encouraging them to explore or further develop these skills.
- Offering the young people assistance and reassurance when appropriate as well as being an active listener.
- Exposing the young people to new opportunities and experiences that they will benefit from.

Responsibilities - As a youth worker you will be required to:

- To attend and support 1 physical workshop per month and fortnightly online workshops with 15 young people.
- To work within a team.
- To attend weekly staff meetings (online)
- To have bio weekly check-ins with young people online.
- To facilitate workshops.
- To keep up with general admin tasks. (e.g., tracking young person’s progress).

- To have an understanding of the challenges faced by young African people in the diaspora.
- To be able to provide emotional, social, and practical support within limits.
- To have self-awareness of one’s boundaries and to have the ability to set limits with others.

An enhanced DBS certificate is required for this role. We will arrange and cover the cost of this if necessary.

**Salary**: £15.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Kettering, NN16 9HX: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Experience**:

- Youth Mentors: 1 year (required)
