Stevenage, United Kingdom Hertfordshire CC Full time

**Advert Information** Job Title**: Children's Information and Advice Officer
**Location**: Stevenage
**Starting Salary**:£27,344 with the opportunity to progress to a maximum of £30,151
**Hours**: 37 per week
**Contract**: Permanent

**Diversity**:We are an inclusive employer and value a diverse workforce

We are currently recruiting Children’s Information and Advice Officers to work within Hertfordshire Gateway Services as part of a newly launched specialist response to provide social care advice for children’s Education Health Care Plans. If you are passionate and committed to supporting children and families to access the right support at the right time and interested in children with special educational needs and disabilities, this is role for you. You will be working in an office based environment.

Your work will be underpinned by the principle of improving outcomes for children and young people through:

- Communicating with parents to best understand a child’s social care needs and to formally contribute towards the child’s Education Health Care Plan.

Wider work includes:

- Effective screening and support, to ensure that families receive the ‘Right Response’ from the appropriate agency at the highest levels of need without unnecessary delay.
- Strengthening screening and referral processes of Specialist Social Care Team and ensure a more timely and proportionate response to ensure that all contacts get feedback and are supported in appropriately addressing the needs of children and young people.

As a Children’s Information and Advice Officer working in our Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) social care advice response service, you will directly contribute to the development of children having an EHCP that meets their holistic needs. You will talk to families and consider with them what the child’s social care needs are. You will support families by signposting them to services to meet those social care needs. You will write the social care advice for the child’s EHCP, confirming the content of this with the family and contributing to a developing service response.

The primary areas of responsibility more widely for Children’s Information and Advice Officers are to be the key point of contact for all enquiries and requests raised from various sources and to accurately record key elements of concerns or needs that are identified. To identify needs, with management direction and support, to assess threshold of risk and understanding of the different tiers of service provision. To make full use of a range of computerised systems, gather and accurately record information and attend regular meetings with the team and professionals.

As a CIAO you will support families and children by providing information on the offer of services available universally and within Early Help in Hertfordshire. The signposting of information will support families in needs to prevent an escalation of concern.

If you enjoy working in a fast pace, rewarding role, that seeks to identify the right support for children and their families at the right time, this is the role for you. No two days will be the same, with a variety of contacts requiring your expertise, you will be communicating via phone with multi agency professionals and members of the public.

**Additional Information**

You will be working at the forefront of best practice, managing complex and diverse contacts within a stable, creative and innovative local authority.

By changing our approaches to families, using Motivational Interviewing, we are supporting more children to remain at home safely within their families, which matches the recommendations of the recent Independent Review of Children’s Social Care by Josh MacAlister.

**Requirements**:

- Although there are no specific qualifications required for these roles previous experience in working with children and families would be beneficial
- Excellent communication skills
- both written and verbal, and demonstrate the ability to build rapport with families and professionals during telephone calls.
- Excellent keyboard skills and be computer literate
- Professional curiosity and excellent organisational skills to ensure work is completed within tight timescales.
- You will be a team player, but also demonstrate the ability to
work autonomously

**Benefits of Working for HCC**:

- Flexible Working Arrangements (depending on the role)
- Excellent Career Development
- Salary Exchange for Additional Benefits
- Excellent Pension Scheme with Employer Contributions
- Shopping Discounts
- Support Groups & Wellbeing Schemes
