Bangor University is seeking to appoint an Academic Registrar to lead and develop its Student Services and Administration Directorate. The postholder will provide leadership and management to a broad portfolio of academic and support services that relate to the student journey. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, and working directly with Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education), the Academic Registrar will lead a service that is proactive and supports the delivery of the University’s objectives to provide an excellent student experience, high quality education, improved student retention, quality assurance and enhancement.

The Academic Registrar will lead and develop the Student Services and Administration Directorate and provide leadership and management to a broad portfolio of academic and support services that relate to the student journey including student administration, enrolment and engagement, quality enhancement, assessment and standards, student wellbeing, employability, disability services, and the Chaplaincy and faith provision.

The post holder will deliver an integrated professional service and high-quality student-focussed support that enables students to achieve their full academic potential. They will be expected to continually improve the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of the processes and services provided by the Student Services and Administration Directorate to ensure processes meet the needs of the University to deliver world-class education and an excellent student experience.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, and working directly with Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education), the Academic Registrar will lead a service to both students and staff that is proactive and supports the delivery of Strategy 2030 and the University’s objectives to deliver an excellent student experience, high quality education, improved student retention and attainment, and quality assurance and enhancement.

The post will require a person able to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues from across the professional services, with Deans and Heads of Schools, as well as with academic colleagues to deliver joined up services for students that meet the requirements of academic schools and colleges. Bangor University develops its student experience in close collaboration with Undeb Bangor, our Students’ Union. The role holder will be expected to ensure the continuation of partnership working with students across the Directorate.

The role holder will be a highly experienced leader in the area of student and academic services, will have broad senior-level experience and be comfortable leading in a complex and wide-ranging services to support students and academic staff. They will be visible and play a broad leadership role across the University and will be actively involved in wider University life.

Main Duties and Resposibilities
- Develop, implement and resource the delivery of the directorate, working with service managers to ensure all sections integrate and collaborate with other University functions.
- Provide visible leadership to staff, providing a clear focus and expectations, and developing and embedding an inclusive, engaging and high performing culture in which staff are empowered to succeed, equality and diversity are valued and nurtured, and a strong customer service ethos and high professional standards are promoted.
- Engage internally with academic colleagues, working collaboratively to understand their needs and maintain a strong business partnership culture.
- Advise the PVC (Education) and the University Executive on matters relating to student and academic administration and on the implications of changes to policy and practice as they relate to Student Services and Administration activities, and to ensure the service continues to remain responsive and deliver cost effective services of the highest quality.
- Be responsible for the development, revision and interpretation and the University’s academic regulations.
- Ensure that the department is compliant with all relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks and accepted standards of best practice in the sector in all its operations.
- Work together with managers in the directorate to develop a coherent departmental plan and budget to deliver the University’s strategic plan, alongside operational systems and procedures for all areas of managerial responsibility covered by the post, and to recommend and implement changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Lead on the development of sector-leading strategies in support of the student experience such as the Student-led Mental Health & Wellbeing Strategy, collaborating with Undeb Bangor (our Studen
