Finance Clerk

A retail business based in York is currently recruiting for a Finance Clerk to join their Credit Control Team on a permanent basis. A salary of up to £23,500 is on offer for this role, alongside up to 28 days holiday, inclusive of bank holidays (increasing to 33 with service), discount and discretionary bonus share scheme.
The Finance Clerk would be joining a successful finance team, and will be responsible for managing customers' outstanding debt and the overall sales ledger process.
Reporting into the Team Leader, key responsibilities for Finance Clerk will include:
- Reviewing new customer accounts and carrying out the necessary checks to determine eligibility for credit
- Opening new accounts on our bespoke accountant system
- Review credit limits using third party agency
- Speaking with customers building and maintaining relationships - chasing payment and dealing with queries and keeping detailed records of collection activities and conversations
- Working closely with other members of the credit control team plus branch managers across the area as well as their area manager and members of other accounting teams across the business
- Allocating cash to customer accounts
- Collecting and chasing bad debt
- Sending out reminders and letters for nonpayment accounts
- Sending out monthly statements
- Reporting to management as needed
To be successful in this Finance Clerk position you must:
- Have previous experience in a sales ledger/credit control position, this is advantageous but not essential
- Have excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Patience and the ability to remain calm in a very business deadline driven office environment.
- Organised and self motivated with good data entry and processing skills
- Excellent numeracy skills and experience using accountancy software, including basic knowledge of MS Excel
We are ideally looking to speak with individuals with Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger or Credit Controller experience. You may be in a role like this already or in an Accounts Assistant or Finance Office role looking for a new challenge. We would also be keen to speak with people who have general office or customer service experience and are looking to move to a more accountancy-focused position such as Admin Assistant, Administration or Office Assistant.
This role is easily commutable from York, Malton, Pickering, Sheriff Hutton, Thirsk and surrounding areas. There is also free car parking on-site.
