Job Description: Teaching Assistant (Upper Prep)

Reports to: Upper Prep Deputy Head / Prep Academic Lead

Hours Monday-Friday: 10.25am-1.40pm (3hrs 15 mins x 5 days)

**Role summary**
- To establish positive relationships and work collaboratively with teaching staff, Prep SENDCo and PLT.
- To work under the guidance of the Class Teacher in the implementation of academic learning and pastoral care and other programmes/strategies with individuals, groups of pupils, to promote effective teaching and learning.
- Assist with the differentiated delivery of the curriculum and provide feedback on progress to Class Teachers.
- Work under the direction of the Class Teacher assisting small groups and individual children.
- Encourage pupils to become independent learners, provide support for their welfare, and promote the inclusion of all pupils, ensuring they have equal opportunities to learn and develop.
- Carry out playground and lunch duties.
- Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the School.
- Provide first aid (training provided).
- Assist with lunchtime clubs (as appropriate).
- Undertake duties and responsibilities necessary to the smooth running of the School, as may be reasonably assigned by the Upper Prep Deputy Head.

**Support for pupils**
- Create a supportive working relationship with the pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
- Under the guidance of the Class Teacher, assist in the implementation of structured learning activities and assist individuals/groups of pupils to complete tasks.
- Meet the personal needs of pupils whilst encouraging their independence.
- Support pupils with special educational needs through the delivery of specific learning programmes.
- Motivate and encourage pupils, by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance, and support with tasks as appropriate to their needs.
- Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively, ensuring all pupils are engaged in activities.
- Maintain high standards to ensure effective learning in all areas and aspects of pupils’ daily school lives.
- Observe pupils’ behaviour, communicating concerns to the Class Teacher.
- Assist with the general pastoral care of the pupils, including helping pupils who are sick or injured.

**Support for teachers**
- Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson time including break-time and lunchtimes.
- Assist in the monitoring and recording of individual pupils’ progress and to report on the pupils’ needs, achievements, and concerns.
- Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities (as required).
- Prepare and maintain resources needed to enhance the learning.
- Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with issues and communicating with the Class Teacher.

**Support for the School**
- Play a full part in the life of the School community, supporting the overall ethos/work/aims of the team and the School.
- Participate in training, other learning activities and performance development as required.
- Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, equal opportunities, health and safety, security, confidentiality, data protection and reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
- Assist with the supervision of pupils outside of lesson time.

NVQ Level 2 or above qualification - appropriate to the post - E

A good standard of education including English and Maths - E

Experience of working with young people on a relevant setting - E

Experience of supporting pupils with ASD - D

Experience of supporting individuals and groups - D

Ability to relate well to young people - E
