PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:
To contribute to the growth of the Manchester land quality team by assisting with the delivery of projects in the fields of soil and groundwater investigation, contaminated land assessment and site remediation using appropriate technical skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To support existing environment and remediation teams in undertaking both office based and site based work - site work is likely to be a significant proportion;
Site investigation sampling/field manager/supervision of contractors - to undertake field based work including supervision and management of site investigations including third party contractors - preparation of accurate site records;
To gain experience of site investigation techniques both for contaminated land, hydrogeological and geotechnical investigations;
Remediation projects - to assist in option appraisals and design of remediation projects, with subsequent supervision of remediation works on site;
To develop client and third party liaison skills as well as technical skills for project manager or technical specialist;
To undertake defined technical tasks within existing and new projects to produce deliverables on time to the required quality and to budget;
Be familiar with current environmental legislation in particular related to groundwater, surface water and contaminated land;
To undertake interpretative technical reporting and analysis of results from investigations and remediation projects - attention to detail and accuracy is required to work well within a team environment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
None, however, previous relevant experience is desirable.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Degree in:
1. Geology or Geography (with environmental science / contaminated land modules); or 2. Hydrogeology; or 3. Environmental science.

PERSONAL PROFILE:
Accept and deal with responsibility for project delivery and client liaison.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Flexible, enthusiastic, strong teamwork skills, commercial awareness and self confidence are crucial.

Able and willing to work and stay away from base office, potentially for extended periods.

Self starter, happy to work outdoors, beneficial to live in close proximity of the Manchester office (half hour commute) or be happy to relocate.

Must demonstrate a genuine interest in developing a career in the contaminated land sector.

Must hold full clean UK driving licence or equivalent - confidence in driving larger vehicles such as transit vans will be helpful.

SALARY:
Competitive salary to be discussed at the interview stage.
