The following list is not exhaustive, and tasks may change according to the needs of the practice.

**DUTIES**:
**Reception**:

- Open Reception desk and prepare for start of day
- Log onto the computer system and find patient information
- Deal with patient enquiries, and make appointments with Clinicians & other service providers, whilst asking appropriate questions to ensure appointment time is correctly allocated
- Co-ordinate the flow of communication between clinicians and patients during the working day.
- Ensure that messages are accurately delivered to the appropriate person
- Use listening and communication skills with all telephone callers and/or personal visitors to the surgery
- Deal with requests for registration
- Follow up queries from patients regarding results of diagnostic tests, X-rays and smear tests
- Collect NHS fees, for prescriptions and give medication to patients, according to practice protocol
- Dealing with requests for home visits
- Liaising with ICT and EMIS Helpdesk as required

**Mail**:
Open and date-stamp incoming mail. Sort and distribute or prepare for scanning.
- Deal with outgoing mail
- Dealing with EMIS tasks and queries
- Scan mail onto the system
- Use photocopier and fax equipment

**Repeat Prescriptions/Medication collection**:

- Filing of patient medication in preparation for collection patient/carer.
- Knowledge of correct procedure for collection of drugs and prescriptions

**Housekeeping & General**:
Operation of practice appliances - heating, lighting, telephone equipment, security equipment, computers, photocopiers, fax machine
- Lock and unlock premises and set (unset) alarm system
- Keep workstation tidy at all times
- Maintain stationery stocks, reordering as required
- Awareness of Health and Safety of self and others
- General tidying of offices, surgeries and public areas

Acting upon any Health & Safety risks
- Acting as chaperone/assistant if needed at medical procedures
- Attending staff meetings and appraisals
- Attending training as required
- Work on own initiative
- Making beverages
- Any other responsibilities within the scope of the role that may be agreed from time to time
- General administration to provide support to other members of the team as appropriate
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving how we provide care
