**Job summary**:
Would you relish an opportunity to be at the heart of the UK Government’s decarbonisation policy and to make a tangible impact on both policy and delivery?

Do you want to use data to deliver lasting change and help shape a new regulation in an area of international significance?

If so, we are looking for a motivated and capable individual to join our Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) regulations team, and we would love to hear from you.

**Job description**:
Our ZEV regulations team is a new part of the Decarbonisation Strategy division that sits within the Transport Decarbonisation directorate. Collectively, we are responsible for delivering on the UK’s ambitious transport decarbonisation plans.

The ZEV mandate is the Government’s largest single net zero policy and the most ambitious regulation of its kind in the world. The mandate will guide the UK new car and van market’s transition to zero emission vehicles. This is connected to the Government commitment to ending the sale of new non-zero emission cars or vans in 2035.

As Senior Data Administrator, you will be responsible for managing data underpinning the assessment of regulatory compliance, including its ingestion, cleansing, processing, and sharing with participants in the scheme. You will engage extensively with the development of the IT system that will support the regulation, leading on key areas of its design and function. You will collaborate with industry participants to ensure data is accurate and provide reports drawn from the data to inform policy discussions in the Department for Transport (DfT) and more broadly. In this role, you will play an important part in the delivery of the ZEV mandate, helping to ensure it is a well-run scheme that commands the confidence of vehicle manufacturers and Ministers.

Data is crucial to informing decarbonisation policy, and the database you will oversee will be critical for understanding the UK’s car and van emissions and the impact of policy measures.

This challenging and exciting role is highly collaborative, and provides the opportunity to work with internal specialists, industry partners and manufacturers. Collectively you will help to deliver substantial greenhouse gas savings daily. There will also be opportunities to participate in high-profile cross-government projects and to engage with Ministers in the UK Government and devolved administrations.

**Your key responsibilities will include**:

- ** Developing data management and sharing**: Managing the ZEV mandate databases and data processing workflow and improving the understanding and communication of renewable transport statistics by using innovative data science approaches.
- ** Leading the reporting on ZEV Mandate**: Developing and managing the delivery of statistics to Ministers and participants and reporting on progress towards ZEV targets and uptake of ZEVs in different segments of the fleet.
- ** Using data to promote ZEV Mandate compliance**: Providing analytical evidence for the operational delivery of ZEV mandate and monitoring trends in data to support the detection of fraud in the renewable transport fuel sector.
- ** Providing advice based on robust evidence**: Collaborating with statisticians, policy officials, analysts, and operational delivery professionals, both within the Department for Transport (DfT) and across government, to produce impactful analysis to shape policy and operational decisions. Collating and presenting statistical data to provide impactful insight for senior leaders.

**Person specification**:
