Position Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Macallan Whisky Making team based at The Macallan Estate as a Sample Room Assistant. This role is designed to support the smooth running of operations within the Macallan Whisky Mastery team. The Macallan sample rooms handle 80k-100k samples per year. This role will assist in the organisation of these samples to allow the whisky makers to work in a compliant and efficient manner. This role would suit a structured and organised individual who thrives on routine.

**Job Description**:

Key Responsibilities for the role include:

- Sample management duties including, receipt, transfer and destruction according to HMRC guidelines
- Responsibility for ensuring Sample Room HMRC compliance - all aspects of sample control, including electronic sample systems, documentation and duty payments where required.
- Set up of a range of samples for sensory assessment, in support of Whisky Mastery Team.
- Ensure Sample Room is maintained in and organised and orderly manner.
- Management of Macallan sample libraries.
- Sample control, record keeping and documentation to HMRC regulations - booking in/out samples on electronic and manual systems. Management of these systems and full audit trail for HMRC compliance purposes.
- Carry out routine analysis of samples using specific test methods for alcohol strength and tint (colour).
- Sample Room administration - updating of electronic sample systems, documentation filing, updating databases, utilising stock quality database and library management.
- Despatch of samples to other Edrington sites.
- Ensure the detailed steps of all Procedures and Test Methods are correctly executed.
- Supporting Whisky Makers in scanning, composite creation and labelling sample bottles as required.
- Tipping samples to keg and completing HMRC paperwork for Sample Room operations and sample requests.
- Ensuring laboratory instrumental checks are carried out across the sample rooms.
- General housekeeping of busy Sample Rooms.

Skills and Experience
To succeed in this role you must have excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle large quantities of samples and data methodically and accurately. Proficient with computers, having good skills with MS Excel and MS Outlook and other electronic data systems. Comprehensive understanding of HMRC and overall compliance. Ability to multi-task and prioritise. Strong communication, administrational and organisational skills. Ability to work well both on a team and individual basis. Effective time management - capability to be flexible and re-prioritise workloads in a busy work environment. Experience in the drinks industry is advantageous but not essential.
