**Bilingual Memory Navigator - 18 Hours a week, Fixed Term 1 year**
**PURPOSE**YOU will be more than just an interpreter and would use their culturally empathic and/or bilingual skills to help encourage families, who have concerns about someone they care for experiencing memory loss related issues, in seeking onward support.
Due to the nature of supporting minority carers, the support approach encompasses supporting the family, and not only the main carer, as there may well be more than one person in the family carrying out a caring role. This is a unique part of this role as anecdotalinformation has shown that it is important to involve family members to be part of the diagnosis and to provide a holistic approach, which considers what works best for the family alongside the person with memory loss.

Carers Support West Sussex exists to offer support and guidance to those people in West Sussex who happen to be unpaid carers. Right now, there are more than 29,000 carers registered with us and this number is growing an average of 7% per year.

**ABOUT YOU**:

- You are verbal fluency in at least one of the following minority languages: Gujarati, Tamil, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu
- You are a natural communicator who is sensitive to people’s individual situations
- You can demonstrate enthusiasm by work dynamically and have the flexibility to understand and learn new processes.
- You will have experience of motivating, empowering, and supporting people to achieve goals.
- You will be confident, energetic and passionate about improving the well being of others.
- You can easily travel across the locality, including rural locations and out of office hours.
- You have the right to work in the UK and are prepared to undertake the background checks, including references and DBS.

**KEY DUTIES**:

- YOU will Provide information, guidance and support to carers looking after someone living with Dementia
- YOU will provide bilingual language support, where required
- YOU will provide support to families who may be in denial about signs of memory related issues (pre diagnosis). Encourage families to go to a GP; go through Memory Assessment Service; and discuss how families would like to be supported through diagnosis.
- YOU will act as a conduit between services; supporting with signposting to, or navigating through, suitable support services including local community groups, statutory and voluntary agencies. Independently arrange appointments with families identifiedas needing support rolling on from referral.
- YOU will provide a personalised service for and with carers based on the principles of trust, respect, and dignity
- YOU will use a range of outcome-based tools to evidence your work, identify gaps in provision and support continuous service development
