**Job summary**:
The CMA is the UK’s world-leading government body established to make sure competition works in consumers’ favour and businesses treat their customers fairly. Be it taking enforcement action against drug firms accused of overcharging the NHS, investigating concerns about hotel booking websites’ practices, or conducting major studies into whether vulnerable consumers are being ripped off by certain industries, what we do really matters.

As a world-leading competition and consumer agency working in the interests of business, the economy and general public, it is important that we communicate our vital work clearly and effectively throughout the UK. The Strategy, Communications and Advocacy Directorate works at the heart of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and plays a vital role in ensuring that our work is communicated to external audiences.

**Job description**:
As Senior Digital Officer, you will play a key role in the CMA's digital work and communications, assisting in the management of a busy digital content team. Supporting the Deputy Head of Digital, you will directly line manage one member of staff (Digital Officer) and indirectly manage a second (Assistant Digital Officer).

You will be involved in leading important projects for the team and the organisation, helping to oversee and manage a busy publishing schedule of important content to GOV.UK. You will make key decisions on the content and articles that are published, ensuring that all digital works adhere to the CMA’s high standards. Accessibility and inclusivity will form a crucial part of your decision making when it comes to content creation and you’ll need to remain sensitive to user needs and experiences.

You will contribute your views and opinions, evaluating the impact of our work and identifying areas that can be optimised and improved, developing innovative digital communications plans to help achieve this. You will also build genuine engagement with UK businesses and consumers, gathering insights to deepen our understanding of our users and to underpin the development of our content.

You will contribute to the creation and output of the CMA's social media, working with your colleagues to plan and produce digital content that boosts engagement and grows our digital channels.

With experience in writing and creating content, you will demonstrate a strong understanding of content design principles. You will also possess experience overseeing communications or digital content project work, working collaboratively to improve and streamline content creation and output.

The expertise to use data to develop key insights into recommendations and communications plans, along with the ability to communicate this to colleagues at all levels is highly desirable.

The CMA prides itself on being a great place to work and strives to ensure that staff have the opportunity to grow and expand their skills portfolio. As well as being a hugely rewarding, diverse and stimulating place to work, you will have an opportunity to work for the public good whilst stretching and developing yourself in doing so.

**Person specification**:
Your detailed responsibilities will include:

- Support the Deputy Head of Digital in the line management of the team, with one direct report (Digital Officer) and one indirect report (Assistant Digital Officer)
- Help to oversee and manage a busy publishing schedule of important content to GOV.UK, including the CMA’s regularly updated case pages, taking decisions and advising on the content and articles published
- Ensure digital work meets the expected CMA high standards, including on accessibility, and advocate for those standards within the organisation and as part of the cross-government and cross-regulatory community
- Work with teams across the CMA to ensure users are at the heart of our content, and important information is presented in the most effective way
- Develop innovative digital communications plans, building genuine engagement with UK businesses and consumers as well as the CMA’s followers and users
- Regulary contribute to, and improve the CMA’s social media output, increasing engagement, and growing our digital channels.
