**About Us**

At Action for Children, we believe that every child should have a safe and happy childhood. Last year, we helped more than 600,000 children and families across the UK. We work to ensure their voices are heard, and campaign to bring lasting change to their lives.

**About the Role**:
Based in our Paisley office, our Moving On service, aims to provide 1 to 1 support for young male individuals between the ages of 16-21 from the Renfrewshire, East Ayrshire, Glasgow, Inverclyde and Highland areas. (This particular post does not cover the Highland area). Practitioners provide support both in Polmont YOI and in the community for young people in contact with the justice system. Our Unpaid Work Service provides an opportunity for young people who have been issued a Community Payback Order to complete their hours in a meaningful and productive way. Young People attend a group session in the local community and complete tasks which benefit the community, such as building planters, gardening, painting and other skills building activities. This is a dual role covering both areas of service delivery.

The aim of both services is to reduce or stop the risk of repeat offending, by also supporting young people with their physical and mental wellbeing and working with them to support with community engagement.. We work together with young people to build upon their skills and have developed programmes such as catering, barista, barbering, mechanics and woodwork over the years to develop employability skills.

We work in a multi-agency way to support young people with a variety of issues including housing and welfare.

**You will help our** **Young** **People by**:

- Demonstrating a tenacity to work towards positive outcomes for the young men we support.
- Having awareness and capability to improve mental & physical wellbeing of the young men.
- Forming and maintaining positive relationships.
- Helping Young People access training, employment or education.
- Helping Young People to keep accommodation and help the community.

Our job description for the **Young Person Practitioner** outlines the requirements of the role but the ‘must-haves' are:

- An open-minded, non-judgemental - you will be working with people that are at a vulnerable point in their lives.
- HNC & SVQ3 in social care will put you at an advantage, but if you don't have this, you will have a requirement to complete this qualification during your employment, which we can support you with.
- A driving licence & access to a vehicle with appropriate insurance
- Experience of working in the Justice System or Social Work.
- Being a real team player, working towards common outcomes.
- Experience of partnership working.
- Experience of working with youth focused environment.
- Flexibility to work across the week, including ad-hoc overnight stays.
