This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced STEM Category Manager vacancy for a very large and established London University.
- Good stakeholder management
- Ability to talk to academics and agree specifications
- Ability to work on their own and as part of a fast moving small team
- Ability to run short tenders or straight negotiation with suppliers
- Ideally some STEM knowledge

Main purpose of the job
To work as a senior manager in one of UCLs procurement/commercial category teams, managing procurement and commercial contract management activity
Drive forward buying and commercial solutions to deliver strategic drivers for the category
Working with allocated Faculties and Departments to drive tangible value for money and optimised solutions
Identity and promote best practice
Liaising with users to roll out and integrate new ways of working
Duties and responsibilities
Develop individual procurement plans which meet the needs of both the category and central commercial drivers (including sustainabillty)
Negotiate Value for Money (VfM) commercial arrangements for the category
Manage large scale tenders
Advise on compliance matters such as when to compete and when to sole source
Ensure UCLs interests are reflected in commercial deals
Recruit, develop & retain highly capable staff, supported by clear development/career plans
Assess demand on existing contracts and develop transition plans for new suppliers as appropriate
Develop appropriate Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) process for the category that is tiered to identify specific types of suppliers needing slightly different SRM approaches
Own and drive non pay saving initiatives across the category
Continuously improving business processes across the category and faculties, putting in place innovative new ways of working
Making a significant and valued contribution to the Commercial Leadership Team, jointly shaping the Commercial strategic plan and driving its execution
