Colchester, United Kingdom Environment Agency Full time

- City/Town- Colchester, Ipswich, Norwich
- Grade- Staff Grade 5
- Post Type- Permanent
- Working Pattern- Full Time
- Role Type- Environment & Sustainability, Science, Analytical
- Salary Minimum- £37,462
- Job description- The Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology team are looking for an experienced specialist in fluvial geomorphology or a related discipline to provide expert advice, guidance, training and technical support across the Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk area.
Your work will help to deliver ecologically healthier natural systems that are more resilient to pressures such as climate change, achieving objectives set by legislative instruments such as the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and policies such as the 25 Year Environment Plan.
You'll lead, manage and provide specialist input into a range of projects. You'll help identify, design and deliver a programme of mitigation and restoration activities in surface waters to deliver measurable environmental outcomes. Your work with operational staff will ensure we prevent or minimise ecological impacts from our own activities and those that we regulate.
This role is as much about working with people as it is about working with nature. You'll proactively engage staff across the business, communicating with colleagues internally and externally, to successfully build trusted networks and strong partnerships, to maximise delivery.
You'll keep up to date on changing legislation and best practice in order to inform internal priorities and direction.
As a member of the EA’s geomorphology community, you'll also maintain good working links with more than 30 geomorphologists based around the country and in our national team.
The post is full-time although requests for other work patterns will be considered.
Your base location can be Ipswich, Norwich or Kelvedon
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

We work in partnership both internally and externally to advise on environmental impacts and improvements.
Experience/skills required- We're looking for an experienced river scientist or practitioner with a sound theoretical understanding of geomorphology, together with good applied experience including project management.
You'll:

- be qualified to at least degree level in a relevant technical discipline, with a good understanding of fluvial processes and geomorphology.
- be able to demonstrate how to analyse and interpret geomorphological information and how to use geomorphological principles to protect and to improve the environment
- know how to work with natural processes to achieve multiple benefits for nature and society.
- be a great communicator willing to work with a diverse range of people.
- Contact and additional information- In East Anglia we want to create a diverse workplace where individuals are respected, valued and listened to. We’re all different, and by embracing Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) we can become an equal opportunity employer where we grow and learn together.
It is our ambition to champion diversity through building a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve.
