We are looking for a consultant in gastroenterology, to join our multi-disciplinary team at Yeovil District Hospital. This is a replacement post for a retiring gastroenterologist. It is a 10 PA post comprising 7.5 PA DCC and 2.5 SPA.

It would suit someone with broad general gastroenterology skills and experience, yet also wishing to practice and develop a subspecialty.

The successful applicant will join a team of 3 consultants, ably supported by an excellent and established multidisciplinary team.

The Trust is soon to merge with Taunton & Somerset Foundation Trust. The merged gastroenterology department will have a total of approximately 12 consultants and will provide gastroenterology care to all of Somerset and some of North and West Dorset.

Our role suits both dual accredited and single specialty gastroenterologist. For dual accredited clinicians, clinical duties split between general medicine and gastroenterology; we are very keen to accommodate other specialist interests, such as ERCP, IBD, Substance Misuse or others.

We are also offering 2.5 SPA per week to give you time for continued professional development and to develop your ideas and career.

To contribute alongside the consultant body to an excellent standard of care covering the full range of gastroenterological and hepatological (+/- general medical) diagnoses, treatment and management of patients requiring in and outpatient services as outlined in your job plan.

Education - Supervise and support postgraduate doctors, delivering teaching sessions and assisting the personal and professional development of our non-consultant staff. It will also include assessment and appraisal of trainees under your supervision with appropriate liaison with Clinical/College tutors when required. The department also supports the education of medical students from the Severn Deanery.

Audit - active participation in audit including initiation and supervision of audit projects related to your subspecialist interest. Participation in national audits is encouraged. All projects are approved by the Clinical Outcome Committee.

Patient safety - to be actively involved in delivering high quality patient centred care and contributing to safety and quality initiatives and improvement projects being undertaken in the trust.

Clinical Governance - Staff are accountable and responsible for maintaining their own clinical competence and acting within their competence. In addition, they are required to attend departmental and trust-wide clinical governance meetings. They may be required to be involved in incident reviews, the patient liaison and advice service, complaints and structured judgement reviews.

Research - There is an active Research and Development department at YDH, in which several national/international NIHR and commercially funded gastroenterology/hepatology studies are running.

Administration - to undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department.

Departmental Activities - to contribute and support regular departmental meetings.
