Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity based within both the chemotherapy production unit and the pharmacy clinical trials dispensary, in accordance
with service needs.

The chemotherapy production unit is responsible for preparing all the chemotherapy for our adult cancer patients and is an essential and vital
service.

Pharmacy clinical trials is an area looking at new medicines or new combinations or uses of established medicines to optimise and improve
patients' health care outcomes.

Main duties of the job

You will be working within procedures and under the supervision of pharmacy technical staff. You will be expected to accurately dispense all
medicines (including aseptic dispensing), maintain accurate documentation, take part in stock control procedures and complete a variety of administrative duties.

You will need to be an enthusiastic and adaptable team player, with good written and verbal communication skills, and pay close attention to detail
because this is essential for this role. You will be liaising closely with other members of the pharmacy clinical trials team and the chemotherapy production team and you will also be in contact with Trust and University of Nottingham research staff and representatives from pharmaceutical companies who sponsor clinical research conducted within the Trust.

This post is based at the City Campus. You may be needed to work occasionally at QMC to support the NUH Pharmacy Clinical Trials service.

The pharmacy clinical trials team is a small unit of friendly and approachable staff. Training and support is readily provided.

The chemotherapy production unit is a busy unit and you will need to be able to focus and work as part of a team to ensure timely delivery of
treatment, and so best possible experience for our cancer patients. This is rewarding of itself.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please see job description attached for full details. Your main areas of work will be in the clinical trials dispensary and the chemotherapy
production unit in accordance with service needs.

You must be in possession of NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Services or an equivalent Pharmacy Manufacturing qualification to work as Band 3. If
working towards this or need to undertake this qualification, successful applicant will be a Band 2 until qualification is gained.

If you have previous experience of clinical trials and/or aseptic production work that would be an advantage, but this is not essential, as we will provide full training and support.

You will also be expected to participate in the pharmacy weekend and bank holiday rota.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
- Possession of, or willing to undertake, or complete NVQ level 2 Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) including relevant modules for this post.
- GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4 (grade C) or above in Maths and English Language

Experience

Essential criteria
- Able to work as part of a team.

Desirable criteria
- Hospital Pharmacy ATO or Community Pharmacy Assistant experience
- Experience in a pharmacy production environment. Experience in aseptic production

Communication & Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
- Able to communicate clearly, both verbally and electronically within a multidisciplinary team.

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Essential criteria
- Accurate with good attention to detail
- Able to follow instructions and standard operating procedures
- Able to identify and work within limits of own knowledge and responsibilities

Desirable criteria
- Able to work accurately and consistently whilst repeatedly dealing with interruptions.

- Methodical and well organised
- Able to prioritise tasks in accordance with department and service users’ needs.
