**Overall Purpose of Post**:

- To manage, develop, promote and supervise the academy’s Library.
- To deliver, alongside teachers of English, library based lessons, aiming to develop students’ literacy and encourage reading.
- Within the library the post holder will ensure that all students and staff have ready access to a broad and relevant range of reading matter, reference materials, research tools and information services. This will support literacy and teaching and learning throughout the school, facilitate independent learning, and encourage reading for pleasure.
- Provide Post 16 study support, including providing guidance on study habits and monitoring study spaces to facilitate highly effective independent study. This guidance will take many forms and after liaison with the Sixth Form achievement team, will involve mentoring a small number of students deemed to need additional support with their consolidation approach.
- Delivery of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) to a small cohort of students as part of a Sixth Form extracurricular offer.
- During times within the academic year the library will provide an additional space for examination students, including those with access arrangements. During these times the post holder will be asked to provide examination support as an invigilator.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**

The post holder will be expected to use all Trust standard computer hardware and software packages where appropriate. Specific responsibilities include:
**Library Management and Sessions**
- Manage behaviour and maintain an atmosphere conducive to study and learning within the Library during set times.
- Support individual students and monitor those independently studying in the Library at set times.
- Encourage staff and students to use the full range of facilities and resources available to maximise their learning opportunities.
- Plan and deliver induction and library sessions for pupils during allocated English lessons (library lessons) to ensure pupils acquire the necessary library skills at appropriate stages and to foster a love of reading.
- Support library / research skills lessons as required by teaching staff.

**Literature Promotion**
- Co-ordinate displays, special events and activities to promote reading and support learning in collaboration with the whole school literacy coordinator, English teaching team and SLT.
- Organise, promote and manage the Scholastic Book Fair and World Book Day.
- Support the achievement team with Ready to Read Weeks and with ensuring that students have age appropriate material.
- Promote use of digital reading systems.
- Run and promote the Reading Challenges and any other schemes as appropriate.
- Maintain relevant social media relating to the library and collaborate with relevant staff to promote use of the library and initiatives implemented.

**Resource Management**
- Organise efficient procedures and systems for delivery of library services; including classifying and cataloguing resources to maintain an accurate and reliable catalogue and lending system (using school systems) for the accessibility, use and control of stock.
- Manage the library budget to ensure appropriate resources are maximised and value for money is obtained within budget.
- Advise on copyright issues to ensure the law is observed to minimise risk of claims against the school.
- Ensure appropriate measures are in place to minimise risk of loss of resources, and administration of overdue letters home as appropriate.
- In liaison with the careers team, to maintain displays within the library relating to careers, including employment trends, employment requirements and opportunities for students.

**Post 16 Study Support and EPQ**
- Support with the monitoring of Post 16 study spaces during school hours.
- Provide guidance on study habits generally and with identified students to facilitate highly effective independent study.
- Mentor identified students to support the Sixth Form team in ensuring that expectations regarding consolidation are met.

**Examinations (when the library space is closed due to examinations)**
- Provide invigilation support to the examinations team during mock and summer examinations, where the volume of these results in the temporary closure of our library space. This may include supporting students with specific access arrangements, being a reader or scribe for example.

**General**
- Work in a professional manner and with integrity and maintain confidentiality of records and information
- Maintain up to date knowledge in line with national changes and legislation as appropriate to the role
- Be aware of and comply with all Trust policies including in particular Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Employee Expectations and Code of Conduct
- Participate in the Academy Appraisal process and undertake professional development as required
- Adhere to all internal and external deadlines
- Contribute to the overall aims and ethos
