The SAW Pipe Mills at Liberty Pipes Hartlepool are the UK’s largest steel pipe mills, manufacturing heavy duty steel pipe primarily for the energy and construction industries both in the UK and worldwide.

Reporting to the Section Manager QC & Inspection we are looking to recruit a QC Systems Operator, based at Hartlepool.

**Key Duties include**
- To assess enquiries and orders against stated specification, historical set-up data and MillProg feedback, identifying any onerous items that may pose difficulties if accepted.
- To be the point of contact for the Enquiries Department requesting the initiation of Quality documentation via the MillProg system and the required calibrated tooling.
- To be an active member of the FE Modeling team, attending periodic meetings, reviewing future contracts, giving historical feedback, optimizing mill tooling and machinery.
- To utilize the Quality Control MillProg mill set-up system, ensuring essential instructions are distributed to the SAW pipe mills in a timely manner.
- To attend the SAW pipe mills tooling and machinery initial set-up and first pipes produced, ensuring compliance to Quality Control instruction and offering guidance as and when required.
- To liaise with the Calibration Technician ensuring adequate calibrated tooling and contractual adherence.
- To assist in the smooth running of the Quality Control Internal Inspection Training system, ensuring all SAW pipe mill inspectors are adequately trained in the use of dimensional measurement tooling, defect identification, inspection and rectification skills.
- To ensure inspectors hold a valid eye test certificate before issuing personal Inspection Passports. Perform annual renewal assessments and regular audits during periods of production.
- To assist in the inspection of incoming plate, ad-hoc pipe inspection, routine mill patrol and non-routine inspection such as dimensional surveys, trials and quarantined stock as required.
- To collect and summarise mill set-up feedback from MillProg, operators, Team Leaders, QC and Tooling teams.
- To receive and review QC patrol reports, mill proformas and non-routine inspection reports from the QC Inspector, reporting any concerns to the QC Section Manager and entering details onto Excel spreadsheets.
- To circulate electronic copies of reports and proformas then file in an agreed shared storage location. Filing all paper reports and proformas before periodically archiving.
- To set up and control an efficient departmental shared drive, allowing easy access to current and historical data, presented in an effective, user friendly format.
- To liaise with clients and client representatives as and when required.
- To liaise with external contractors regarding systems support, development and purchases.
- To control the QC offices maintenance, notice boards, stationery and consumables.
- To raise IQNCR's for any issues or concerns found whilst performing daily tasks.
- To participate in project and development teams as required.
- To perform area condition audits and behavioral safety audits as required.

Requirements**
- Applicants should have a good level of IT skills, in particular Microsoft Excel, with the ability to quickly transfer data from written to electronic reports.
- You should be experienced in working to deadlines under pressure, be a good communicator with a proactive and optimistic outlook.
- Knowledge and experience of SAW Mill pipe manufacturing processes and knowledge of visual, dimensional and other associated mill inspection processes would be advantageous.
- It is expected that the Quality Control Systems Operator will have the ability and desire to progress to a higher level in the Quality Control Department after a period of building sound knowledge and experience.
