Detailed job description and main responsibilities Communication Recognise and maintain confidentiality of information relating to patients/clients and their records In conjunction with fellow Junior Sister, chair team meetings and lead on daily morning huddles. Work closely with the Clinic Co-ordinator for the Urology Centre to ensure accuracy of clinic lists. Ensure clarity in communicating with patients/clients and their relatives as well as other team members and in answering questions within the sphere of ones own knowledge. Contribute to the on-going support of patients/clients and others significant to them, enabling patients/clients to maintain their interests, identity, and emotional well-being.

Welcome patients/clients, their families, and other visitors to the department. Introduce them to the facilities and services provided. Answer the telephone in a clear, friendly, helpful, and professional manner. Take any Messages accurately and endeavour to respond in a timely manner to patient queries.

Demonstrate a caring approach to patients/clients, their families, and visitors and to have good verbal and non-verbal communication skills. To be courteous and helpful to patients, families/carers, colleagues and all users to the trust. Work in conjunction with fellow Junior Sister and Senior sister to ensure smooth running of an effective service. Leadership Lead by example with drive and enthusiasm, responding appropriately to the needs of patients, families, and carers.

To act as a positive role model to the team. Set high standards of care for the department, including clinic cleanliness etc., ensuring these are maintained so that the patients experience is excellent. Constructively challenge practices as necessary, which impact on patients care and/or staff wellbeing. Promote a learning environment for Nursing and Medical students People/Management Excellence Have the ability and knowledge to competently deal with an emergency.

Manage his/her time effectively and perform allocated tasks within a reasonable time frame, knowing when to seek support, assistance, and advice from other team members. Undertake general clerical duties that may be associated with the smooth running of the department. Assist in the maintenance of department equipment and stock levels. Actively maintain and promote a safe clinic environment Understand and support Pathway to Excellence philosophy and standards.

Actively promote evidence-based practice within the clinical area. Will seek out Best Practice to generate new ideas and generate change. Maintain and promote an awareness of evidence-based practice and participate in its implementation Allocate and manage staffing to ensure safe cover with suitable skill mix across all areas in the unit and to escalate to the Senior Sister/Matron when an area cannot be safely staffed. To undertake return to work interviews and manage the sickness absence of Nursing staff in the department.

To perform annual/ bi-annual appraisals for Nursing staff, encouraging their professional development and providing constructive feedback on their performance. Professional Responsibilities At all times to adhere to statutory, mandatory, Trust guidance and the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England (2013). Adopted and adapted for use at NGH January 2014. Maintain own statutory, mandatory training, and divisional/directorate specific essential training.

To be aware of and comply with all Trust policies and risk assessments with particular regard to the policies and procedures carried out in the event of maintaining staff and patient safety. Undertake nursing procedures and techniques in accordance with agreed Trust policies and guidelines. Be self-motivated and seek ways to flexibly extend own knowledge skills Maintain competencies in catheter care, ANTT and catheterisation. Identify learning needs in self, negotiating a Personal Development Plan recognising own limitations.

Understand own limitations and know where to find advice and assistance. Act as a role model for new starters in the area. Act as a Supervisor/Assessor for Students in the area (dependant upon level of qualification) Report incidents using the Trust reporting system.
