An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time permanent role as supervisor of the Jungle Garden at the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

Level 3 or above horticultural qualification

Excellent and relevant plant knowledge

Team management experience

Full driving licence, including tractor driving experience

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Salary 25k with 28 days holiday (incl. all bank holidays)

**Title: Jungle Supervisor**

**Reporting to**:Garden and Estate Manager & Head of Gardens

**Role Overview**:
To supervise the team to develop and maintain the Jungle to a high standard.

To develop and oversee the performance and well-being of the team in your charge.

To support the Head Gardener in planning work and carrying it out as agreed

To coordinate with the other team supervisors, managers and departments when needed.

**Areas of responsibility**:
Practical / Day to Day
- Maintain all areas of planting within the Jungle to a high standard.
- Maintenance of the lawn and turf areas to a high standard.
- Manage and maintain plants from the historic Rhododendron and Camellia collection in the Jungle
- Assist in the ordering of plants and bulbs for new planting areas.
- Maintenance of the Stewards House garden plants, paths and lawns.
- Ensure your team keeps all paths, sumps and drains in your area clear and well maintained.
- Safe use of machinery and implementation of regular servicing, maintenance and safety checks.
- Providing garden tours for visiting groups and VIPs
- Assist the Marketing Dept with press interviews, articles, TV and social media.
- Ensuring all practices are sympathetic to Heligan’s environmental, sustainability and regenerative ethos.

People
- Make sure all areas of Health and safety are being adhered to.
- Day to day supervision of team members / volunteers and allocation of tasks.
- Staff development.
- Liaise with other teams to assist with the implementation of our events programme
- Engage with the public to improve our visitors experience of the gardens.
- Co-ordinate with other supervisors to ensure the best use of shared machinery and resources.
- Assist in the provision of 7 days cover across the garden.
- Make sure all staff are trained before using machinery
- in house if necessary.

Planning
- Liaise with the Garden and Estate Manager regarding the management of large trees within the Jungle.
- Assist in the development and design of new areas as and when required.
- Assist in the recording of the National Collection and any mapping of new beds and borders.
- Assist in the procurement of new equipment and the disposal of old.
- Working with other teams to manage garden waste responsibly.
- Heligan may on occasion, ask you and your team to carry out tasks other than those of your normal duties in order to assist the smooth running of the business.
