An exciting opportunity has arisen for a very dynamic and versatile senior nurse leader with a strong skill set of leadership and management to join our team.

We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic, committed, has the ability to work under pressure and have a willingness to progress as a senior nursing leader through developing their own cllinical and professional skills. You will be expected to posses the ability to work autonomously and bring strong leadership across two Emergency Departments within BHRUT. You will provide senior clinical expertise within the departments working in collaboration with the rest of the Specialty leads.

You will be expected to lead on the professional aspect of emergency care, ensuring they are adhered to and translates into the delivery of a quality based experience for all patients within the departments. This post will include working some nights and weekends.

You will work as a valued member of the MDT in the Emergency Department in conjunction with the ED clinical leads, specialty lead nurses and managers.

The post holder will have opportunity to evolve the provision of emergency care services for both adults and children to match the increasing demand and complexities of the service.

Our busy Emergency departments cover two sites - Queens Hospital Romford and King George Hospital Ilford.

This post requires a real commitment to the principles of devolution of decision making to clinical teams, working closely with the Speciality Matron and Speciality Clinical Lead and Speciality Service Manager.

You will provide coaching and mentoring, style leadership within the clinical environment in all areas within the emergency department.

You will ensure that the professional aspects of nursing within the Emergency Departments are adhered to, and provide senior nursing support to the Speciality as required, by role modelling and embedding consistency in quality of care, as well as clear standards of escalation on a number of items.

Mentoring and role modelling the development of staffing in leading all the different areas of the emergency department, by show casing and setting the standard.

Clinical quality & productivity

You will be expected to work in the clinical numbers of the establishment within ED at least 75% of their working hours.

In the clinical hours and non-clinical hours are expected in partnership with Speciality Matron to monitor their clinical areas to look at environmental standards (where appropriate) and as well as review the care delivery to patients and escalating any issues regarding this in real time to teams involved in patient care, also manager situation in id of trust policy/procedures.

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London - more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We’re pleased to be leading the way in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be accredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
