We are looking for an experienced Principal/Senior Environmental Planner to support delivery of United Utilities large capital investment programme. You'll have a strong track record of leading and delivering the planning and environmental consents for programmes of work.

The work will be diverse and challenging, working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams from desk studies to EIA management. You'll influence project design development to deliver successful environmental and planning outcomes in line with environmental objectives, policies and standards.

**Job Accountabilities**:
You'll deliver successful planning approvals and environmental consents for the capital investment programme and other business areas. You'll also be responsible for:

- The delivery of programme of works within budget and schedule to all internal clients
- Developing, supporting and maintaining strong working relationships with planning authorities and other stakeholders
- Communicating effectively when representing the company at community consultation events and at planning committees including for contentious developments.
- Developing strong working relationships with project teams including contractors and manage and support external suppliers
- Developing and update environmental standards and guidance notes and contribute to the formation of company policies

**Knowledge and Skills**:

- Excellent report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality
- Experience in multi-disciplinary co-ordination and leadership of projects, with good project management and technical skills
- Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders
- Excellent understanding of the UK planning system and environmental legislation in relation to the utilities sector
- Experience in managing and challenging multi-disciplinary teams to produce successful planning submissions and engagement approaches
- Experience in implementing effective strategies to gain regulatory approval for projects including ability to identify, articulate and manage consenting and reputational risks and opportunities with internal and external stakeholders
- Be accomplished at managing, coaching and mentoring planners, graduates and interns
- A pragmatic, and collaborative approach to work
- A good working knowledge of GIS
