The Speech and Language Therapy service for the acute and neuro-rehabilitation beds at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) has an exciting opportunity for a band 7 highly specialist SLT to work within Parkinson’s Disease service multi-disciplinary team. This is a new post and will deliver a focussed SLT service for this patient group and work closely with the MDT for an integrated approach to their care. The role includes attendance at Parkinson’s disease MDT clinic, requiring the working pattern to include Wednesdays.

This is a permanent post with 5 sessions available.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside other SLTs working with outpatients, with other Band 7s across the service, and with members of the Parkinson’s disease MDT. The post holder will work closely with the SLT leads for a strategic approach, business case development, and to ensure governance and a quality service.

The post holder with provide a specialist clinical service and also support the team to provide high quality Speech and Language Therapy service We are looking for someone with advanced clinical reasoning, critical thinking and reflection skills. The post will give the holder the opportunity to lead on strategic developments with the support of their colleagues and line manager, which will develop their leadership skills as well as developing their clinic specialist knowledge.

**Service delivery**

To work autonomously to provide a coordinated and highly specialist service to designated specialism within a multi-disciplinary/multi-agency context and inform and advise the service leads as to training, resources, trends and development needs

To work collaboratively with a variety of different agencies/professionals ensuring management and treatment meets the holistic needs, providing a well co-ordinated care plan for specialism/setting

To represent the Speech and Language Therapy service at agreed forums

To represent speech, language and communication and/or dysphagia needs at agreed forums

To participate in multi
- disciplinary projects as agreed.

**Clinical Practice**

To independently manage, triage and prioritise own complex caseload providing a highly specialist SLT assessment, formulation, diagnosis, intervention and advice based on evidence based practice

To develop and provide highly specialist packages of care to individuals working as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team across a variety of agencies and locations

To mentor, supervise, teach and develop SLT colleagues and other professionals within area of expertise

To effectively delegate to assistant SLT, administrative and other staff.

**Clinical Governance**

To proactively contribute to regional / national RCSLT Clinical Excellence Groups and Hubs as well as other relevant groups

To maintain and demonstrate own CPD, keeping up to date with clinical developments & current research and evidence based practice to ensure own and others practice is safe and effective

To contribute to team objectives and clinical governance activities of the Trust, reflecting local and national priorities

To be responsible for planning, provision, monitoring and evaluation of programmes of learning and development to family/carers, paid carers and professionals as appropriate.

To provide highly specialist clinical expertise, advice and support including second opinions, supervision and clinical training to SLT colleagues to promote a high standard of clinical management

To ensure that quality standards and systems of quality assurance and monitoring are implemented in order to continually improve service delivery
