Ecology Survey Coordinator
This is an exciting opportunity to join a large, enthusiastic and skilled Binnies team at critical stage of the nationally significant infrastructure project, HS2, which aspires to connect the UK whilst also providing social and environmental benefits. The HS2 project is the biggest rail investment ever made in the UK and is Europe’s largest infrastructure project.
Due to the scale of ecological surveys that are required to inform each stage of the HS2 scheme, we are looking to recruit an Ecology Survey Co-ordinator to help manage these surveys for part of the Phase 2b Section (Birmingham to Crewe).
**The role requires**:
- Liaising with surveyors (internal and sub-contractor) and keeping up to date with their availability
- Ensuring surveyors have completed required onboarding and inductions and CVs are approved and signed off by the relevant Technical Leads
- Updating the survey schedule with support from Ecology Technical leads including: allocating survey dates, and updating completion status of surveys
- Liaison with Contractor H&S Manager to resolve any potential site access restrictions and updating the project programme with site access updates
- Checking surveyors have uploaded survey reports, abortive survey forms and dynamic risk assessments.
- Reporting any issues from the dynamic risk assessment to the Binnies Project Manager and/or Contractor H&S Manager as appropriate.
You would be working in a large, established Binnies HS2 team who will provide you with all necessary support and training. You will also be welcomed into the wider national Binnies Ecology and Environmental Team. We have an active Ecology Community of Practice and pride ourselves on being at the forefront of ecological best practice and innovation. Binnies pay for two professional institution memberships and provide support and training for our professionals through their professional membership journey to chartership.
After a while in this role there will be an opportunity to diversify your career by moving onto other ecological roles/projects and/or continuing to advance in project management, depending on your aspirations.
**Essential Requirements**
The role is suitable for an early career ecologist who would like to gain some assistant project management experience. You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:
- have an ecological/environmental related degree
- have some practical experience of undertaking ecological surveys
- confident in Excel and databases with an excellent attention to detail
- highly organised and adaptable to changing survey schedules or requirements
- enjoy communicating with people
- hold a full UK driving licence
**The following experience is also preferred but not essential;**
- experience of using Arc suite (Collector, Survey 123) or similar
- membership of CIEEM (any level)
- have (or working towards) a protected species licence
