Overview

Purpose of the Job
- To teach a wide range of modules in Accounting at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervision of projects and dissertations.
- To develop teaching materials or methodologies, for example course design or assessment, and be module coordinator or contribute to module co-ordination.
- For those appointed to a Teaching and Research contract, to conduct and report on research of an international standard in a relevant field, with evidence of quality and international peer recognition. - To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students. To conduct administrative tasks as designated by the Head of School.

**Responsibilities**:
GRADE 7

Teaching duties will include:

- Establishing a record of teaching excellence at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- Planning, preparing and delivering lectures and seminars at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes including delivery of quality modules that attract, engage and retain students;
- Motivating students to proactive engagement in learning, and providing meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work within agreed time constraints;
- Examining and supervising/co-supervising students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- Keeping abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments;
- Ensuring that all students are provided with a supportive learning environment and provide advice and guidance to individual students as their personal tutor;
- Participating in Quality Enhancement procedures;
- Contributing to the teaching and assessment of the School’s portfolio of Accounting modules and programmes at various levels according to the needs of the School, including designing, developing and delivery of a range of teaching materials for study at various levels;
- Relating, wherever possible and practicable, teaching to the surrounding area by using the local environment to engage students.

Additional duties for those appointed to a Teaching and Scholarship contract will include:

- Maintain and develop Scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies.
- Depending on profile, publish evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.

Research duties for those appointed to a Teaching and Research contract will include:

- Personal research, and/or collaborative research with colleagues in the School or across the College / University;
- Managing one’s own research projects, with an emphasis on research output of a quality and quantity to contribute positively to the esteem and resources generated by the Research Excellence Framework;
- Contributing to the research environment of the School through publication, conference contributions, research seminars and other research activities;
- Contributing to research groups / networks internally or externally to the School and / or University;
- Contributing towards the School’s capability to attract external research funding;
- Supervision of research students;
- Engaging in scholarly and other relevant professional activities.

Administrative and Wider Contribution duties will include:

- Participating in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School;
- Contributing to the School’s management, and participate in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes;
- Contributing to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives;
- Contribute to the promotion and external profile of the School.
- Taking responsibility for specific modules as appropriate, working towards ensuring optimum module evaluation results;
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to the working of the committee structures of the School and College;
- Contributing to areas of academically related administration;
- Undertaking other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School.

GRADE 8

Teaching duties will include in addition to the above:

- Initiating and taking forward the development of new programmes that will appeal to a wider market;
- Building links with external agencies to provide work experience for students that could lead towards them gaining an additional professionally recognised qualification.

Research duties for those appointed to a Teaching and Research contract will include in addition to the above:

- Contributing to the research environment of the School through publication, conference contributions, research seminars and other research activities;
