IT Trainee

Sitting within the back office software development team, support all IT activities including support for the Head of IT as required. With further training, assist with user support, helpdesk and BAU IT activities including regular monitoring and reporting and troubleshooting software issues with the support of the development team. Manual testing where required, assisting with technical documentation and administration tasks for the Head of IT.

**Minimum Qualifications required upon recruitment**

Minimum qualification of ‘A’ Level standard or equivalent with at least 5 GCSEs with minimum of grade C in Maths and English.

**Principle Job Objectives**
- Using documented procedures, resolve helpdesk queries and basic database amendments
- Provide helpdesk support and undertake training to troubleshoot issues and queries
- Ensure users and job owners are kept up to date on job progress and managing expectations on completion
- Undertake BAU development tasks as allocated
- Monitor various system reports to ensure the systems are performing as expected including system alerts, large file size reports, duplicate policy warnings and service crashes
- Perform testing using documented procedures for the developers and test team where required
- Assist the Head of IT with administration tasks and meetings and diary
- Attend meetings and take minutes when required
- Assist the Head of IT by following up actions, updating helpdesk jobs, CR status and reports where assigned
- To attend identified training initiatives to improve knowledge and awareness and participate in targeted department training when required.
- Liaise and maintain relationships with other departments
- Keep accurate time logs and record these on the IT resource planner and helpdesk
- Support and work in accordance with OPAL’s ISO27001 policies and procedures.

- Ability to work, at times, in a pressurised and fast moving environment

**Additional Knowledge required to become fully competent**
- Knowledge of all OPAL’s proprietary systems
- Knowledge of Structured Products, Life Insurance and Investments
- Identify recurring helpdesk requests which could be automated or improved for efficiency
- Knowledge of handling System Errors to implement repairs generically and effectively and without repeat of error
- Learn to write modular/reusable code and basic back end database queries according to in-house standard
- Working with the development team to resolve complex queries or helpdesk jobs
- Undertake training to support system errors and crashes
- High standard of user support and customer care
- Awareness of Consumer Duty in all work undertaken
- Acquire and implement knowledge and awareness of ISO27001

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: From £23,000.00 per year
