**Job summary**:
The Forestry England IT team provides services to several agencies within the Forestry Commission (Forestry England, Forest Services and the Commissioners’ Office). The core function of the team is to provide managed IT services to ~2000 staff across a broad range of roles, delivering diverse business functions across England. The team consists of highly skilled in-house IT experts, supported by a number of third party contractors and suppliers.

Working within the Forestry England IT team, this is a non-technical role, providing an essential link between the more technical areas of the team, and the wider organisation.

This role will be pivotal in ensuring that all users across the organisation adopt new systems and ways of working, both to ensure value on investment, but more so for the organisations benefit.

The post is essential in the delivery of key areas of the IT Strategy, with a core focus on supporting end users to make the most out of the systems available to them; establish sound relationships across the organisation; utilising new and existing comms channels; and instil cyber security awareness as a part of the organisations culture.

The post has the ability to shape the approach that the department takes in a number of areas. This includes undertaking extensive research and information gathering to inform projects that this post will subsequently manage, working with a wide range of colleagues as required.

Location is flexible for this role, based on use of one of the existing Forestry Commission offices in England, and the option of blended home working. The post holder will be expected to occasionally travel throughout the UK with some overnight stays, including at the Bristol national office.

**Job description**:
**Key Work Area 1: IT Literacy and Training**:
This role will lead on developing a sound approach to ensuring the organisation has all of the relevant skills and support for realising the many benefits of the IT systems made available to them. The role will scope and manage a project to develop an effective IT training and literacy model, and thereafter managing on an ongoing basis.
- Review into IT literacy across the organisation
- Improved access to training material
- Creation and management of an IT training hub for all existing resources,
- Actively seek and promote new opportunities for training
- Work with third parties to establish regular programme of training courses and material currently available to the organisation

**Key Work Area 2: Business Engagement**:
This post will lead on establishing an effective and wide ranging set of business engagement channels, through networks of staff across the organisation, and using existing and new comms channels.
- Establish a set, varied Comms approach for the department
- Undertake regular information gathering from the organisation, through engagement groups, staff surveys, and continued presence at organisation wide briefings

**Key Work Area 3: Comms lead for the department**:
This post will lead on all communications writing for the department, managing set campaigns through the established channels, and supporting project Comms for the entire team.
- Developing clear, concise written material in various forms, for publication across the organisation through a number of channels
- Managing Comms plans for project delivery, producing guidance materials and working with the IT team to produce ongoing documentation at project closure
- Develop and project manage a multi-year cyber security awareness campaign, with IT Security colleagues

**Key Work Area 4: Maximising use of new and existing technologies**:
This role will lead on driving forwards adoption of IT systems, focussing on both existing and new developments in order to maximise impact at all levels of the organisation.

- Encouraging IT and technology equality across the organisation
- Develop a culture of organisation-wide IT/technology inclusion, ensuring good, useful IT is accessible to all.
