**Information about the role**

The South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team (SERPIT) is responsible for gathering and developing intelligence from HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime.

The prison hub is supported by a number of Prison Intelligence Officers (PIO’s) who are expected to work within the regional establishments. Working alongside HMPPS, they identify and exploit intelligence opportunities with a view of mitigating risk and disrupting offenders.

**Responsibilities**
- Working in prison establishments, to gather, develop and disseminate intelligence from individuals in relation to national security and Serious Organised Crime issues within and outside the prison environment using police and HMPPS prison computer systems.
- Update and complete actions allocated in respect of prison developments ensuring activity is undertaken expeditiously and in accordance with operational objectives and policy. The post holder maybe required to utilise powers to seize evidence and attend court accordingly, if required.
- Ensure that relevant intelligence is disseminated in accordance with policy and procedures, accounting for any sensitivity attached to the intelligence, and is compliant with the Human Rights Act, the Data Protection Act and Management of Police Information (MOPI) e.g. to the HMPS, ROCU, NCA, HM Customs & Revenue etc.
- Develop and maintain excellent working relations with HMPPS, supporting their needs in relation to national security, radicalisation, Serious and Organised Crime, and good order and discipline issues. Provide expert advice and training to stakeholders within HMPPS in all relevant matters, including those relating to extremism, radicalisation, counter terrorism and serious and organised crime.
