Making A Difference as A Mechanical Sweeper in the Operations Department
St. Helens Borough Council is looking to recruit several enthusiastic, motivated operatives to work on our Mobile Teams to provide all aspects of the street cleansing service.
This is a great opportunity to join an existing team of highly trained staff responsible for the maintenance of Parks, Playing Fields, Open spaces, Cemeteries and Schools, highways throughout the borough. It is essential for these areas to be maintained to a safe and high standard throughout the seasons.
St Helens Council will offer you an attractive salary with 185 hours annual leave (rising to 207.2 hours after 5 years' service) plus Bank Holidays per year.

Duties will include maintenance Streets, Parks, Open Spaces and Cemeteries
To drive any vehicle, excluding HGVs, to perform all activities that fall within the street cleansing service of St Helens Council.
To undertake driver’s daily checks, cleaning, and maintenance of vehicles.
To sign in/out vehicle keys, and to ensure that any spare vehicle used is tipped and fuelled each day.
To carry out the removal of fly tipping, emptying of dog and litter bins, street sweeping and other duties as required.
To perform all tasks to the required level of productivity and quality.
To update current information to ensure work sheets are completed as necessary.
Taking on-site decisions in non-routine circumstances.
To pass on general communications to colleagues and being the point of contact for the office.
To communicate by mobile phone/radio or in written form at the request of management.
Dealing with public enquiries relating to street cleansing.
Carry out work to written specifications, and subsequent completion of relevant documentation to agreed timescales, including timesheets & record of inspections.
Applicants must have at least 1 year experience of working for local authority
A full driving license is essential - minimum of category C1+E.
